Chapter 1

Lauren stared at herself in the mirror. She twirled her brown wavy hair around her finger. I don't get it! She thought. Why do the other girls care so much about how they looks, education is so much more important! Lauren was so confused, she had no friends! Her only hobbies were maths and English, which no one else seemed to like ecsept for Eddy. He was lauren's bestfriend since nursery, but just last year he moved away to Blackpool because his dad lost his job as an electrician so the illuminations was perfect. She lost her best friend. She didn't want to lose her education too so she became the smart loser with no friends.

It was Lauren's first day of high school and she wanted to make a good impression. Most of her class were going to Crayton High School like her so she knew most of the girls in her set, this meant she knew how obnoxious they were and how they judge others by their hair, make up and what they look like. So she decided to make some friends she needed to be beautiful. Lauren stood up and walked to her sister's room, since Caitlin had started college, she set of at 5:00am, Lauren knew she would be out. She tiptoed inside, just incase her mum heared her, and searched for Caitlin's make up. Then she saw it, the 30cm long pink makeup bag at the other side of the room. She rushed to window where it lay on its side, and then she unzipped it and peeked inside. She found some lip gloss and placed on her lips, then she grabbed the eye shadow and rubbed it onto her eye lids, after that she put blusher on. Then she found Caitlin's nail varnish and painted away. Lauren was alright at painting but she didn't really enjoy it, she thought it was boring and that it took too long to make a masterpiece. Even though this was her first time painting her toe nails she knew she was never doing it again, she just couldn't stay still and she was bored silly.

Once she had done beautifying herself she turned to the mirror and a tear fell from her eye. This isn't me. She thought. I don't care about my appearance, or stupid friends, who cares if I don't have any, I'll stay alone all my life, anything is better than this make up! But inside Lauren knew all she wished for was a friend.

Sam sat up in her chair when the words came out of her fathers mouth. 'We're moving to Hollywood'. She didnt want to move she loved it there, in Australia. She was so upset, she ran through the kitchen, up the stairs, into her bedroom, jumped into her bed and cried her eyes out. She would lose all her friends, her grandparents and other family all because of her brother, Riley. He dreamed of being an actor and had just won a competition and they had to go to Hollywood for a week to receive the prize. Then he hit big in the acting theatre and they must move there. Sam cried all night although she knew crying wouldn't make much difference.

At 3:00 am Sam's mum woke her up because in half an hour they were going to America. Sam yawned and looked in the mirror at her eyes red from tears. Then she noticed her long red hair was all notted and all over the place so she grabbed a brush and a bobble and tied her hair up into a messy bun. I am starting high school in a different country! she thought while more tears came. I won't know anyone there and I'll be arriving in the middle of the day! She felt horrible, she wouldn't have any friends there and they would think she was weird because of her accent. It was so scary for Sam! Then she got the idea; they can't make me stay in America if I dont have anything to wear! She grabbed her suitcase and threw all the clothes her mum had packed for her into the wardrobe and put buckets full of shells from the last trip to America, that way her mum wouldn't wonder why it was so light.

"You okay with that darling?" Sam's mum asked as she lifted the heavy suitcase down the stairs.

"Whatever"She replied. Her brother then walked into the corridor and took the suitcase out of Sam's hands.

"Thanks," she replied with a fake smile on her face which you could easily see through. She didn't want to be there, she didn't want to go to America, she didn't want to go to Crayton High, but she couldn't change any of it, it was meant to be.
