In a split second of sunrise and fall, whimsical monsoon weathered nights of late orange and purple sunsets and heated dark skies breezed into early chilly nights. With only one weekend to spare, summer at its best nature began to stir, signaling a ready for its departure. Like most, days and nights blurred into one, a movie film frozen upon a loop as each delved in drunken beach parties and bonfires and summer house bashes.
Liberty High teens thrived in planning kickbacks when parents were away or securing secret party hideouts along the beach of town, taking turns off the keg stand and silently begging to kiss their crush with the stain of liquor on the tips of their tongues during a game of suck and blow. It was instances like such where each young hormonal youth could come together as one, regardless of social status, and party it up - alcohol and experimental drugs barricading hidden truth behind each heavy set of bloodshot eyes.
Bryce Walker held the key to Liberty High stardom, his parties being the talk of the halls weeks to come until his next bash took over - each just as insane as ever. However, tonight for the first time, a curly haired brunette vowed to take his crown and make herself truly known before she'd begin her first day with unfamiliar fake friend faces. When Hannah Baker moved to Cresmont, she was happy to have some comfort in knowing her childhood friend Kat, at least for a while considering Hannah's luck at normalcy and solace ran out with her moving the following Monday. This would be the girls last night together and Hannah's fresh start of taking over her friends legacy and gaining social hierarchy.
Sophie Greene was the second person Hannah met when she moved to town. Funny enough, the Bakers bought Sophie's grandmother's house, which just so happened to be directly next door to each other. It had been a rough and drastic lengthy conversation for the Greene's. Unfortunately Mama Greene on her father's side was involved in a four car collision coming home from the shopping center. Due to the impeccable damage, she was squished in the middle of the wreckage and by the time support used jaws of life to tear the older woman out, it was too late.
Her grandmother's house was empty for nearly a year before the Greene's decided it was finally time to move on and let another family spring some life into the home. No matter how much Sophie begged and pleaded to keep her grandparents home and rent it out, her parents obliged. However, her scrutiny towards new people taking over one of her favorite childhood homes lessened when she noticed the girl living beside her not only held a decent personality but shared the same best friend as her - Kat.
The perky blonde desperately tried to hate the new mysterious brunette, more so due to the fact her parents bought her grandma's house (like it was any of the new girls fault) but after drinking two bottles of wine Kat stole from her mother's cabinet and binge watching old episodes of The O.C, the blonde and brunette in fact became tied at the knott gushing over their mutual adoration over bad boy Ryan Attwood.
Both girls were grateful, though they each were losing a best friend, they gained another.
Kat refused to go out in silence, booming on having one last huge hoorah. Her intent was to get Hannah acquainted with everyone, using her departure to calm the new girl from gaining all the attention. Nonetheless, it was a reason to party, especially with it being the last weekend before school.
"Dress or shorts?" Hannah held both items latched on its hanger in each arm, going back and forth between holding the either directly in front of her body.
Laying on her back with her head slightly off the edge of the bed, her long wavy locks drizzling to the carpet, Sophie observed Hannah's reflection. With a huff, she rolled herself over and perched herself upward onto her hands so she was laying up her stomach but slightly sitting up. Her eyes examined Hannah's reflection in the mirror then darted to the top draped over the back of her computer chair.
Humming, she pushed herself up further then rolled off the bed, landing on her sock clad feet. Grabbing the cropped shirt off the chair, Sophie went to her friend and held the shirt up near the jeans, glancing between the two outfits. Hannah's brows furrowed as Sophie's face contorted into a mixture of facials between disgust, intrigue, and curiosity before looking uninterested in either option.
"Neither," she said, meeting Hannah's eyes, who tilted her head in bewilderment. Groaning, Hannah tossed the clean clothes in the corner near her hamper, "picking an outfit shouldn't be this difficult."
Walking to the closet, Sophie pried it open and began rummaging through her flannels, t-shirts, and dresses. "You're over thinking too much," she stated, her eyes gleaming in delight when she found her target. Gripping the hanger, Sophie tossed the minimal clothing to Hannah.
The brunette tisked when her face was covered with a dress, her head shaking when she realized exactly what her friend wanted her to wear. "I can't wear this," she stated but Sophie ignored her, "yes you can."
"I bought this on a whim," Hannah stated, remembering how much she loved the cotton burgundy bodycon tank dress. She didn't think she'd actually wear it since it wasn't her style but she always hoped she'd feel spontaneous one day and go out of her zone. As if she were in her own room, Sophie strode around, opening a top drawer and slingshotting a nude shaded thong, a giggle toying her lips, "more reason to wear it... besides you want to impress the boys right?"
Hannah gasped in a chuckle when she caught the garment in her fist. Her eyes roamed the outfit in her lap and part of her doubted the choice for a second but when her eyes met her friends' determined gaze she sighed. She thought to Facetime Kat and see what she thought of the fit but deep down she knew it would be her two friends against her.
"Fine," she stood and stalked to the door, stopping in the frame, "the boys..."
Sophie gave her friend a comforting smile, "will love you...as long as their names aren't Justin or Bryce," she winked reminding her of both Kat and her boyfriends.
"Right," she nodded, leaving the blonde to fend through her own duffle of clothes in debate of what to wear.
