▬▬▬▬ 𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚢𝚎𝚊𝚛 𝚊𝚐𝚘,

"This can't happen again," Sophie spoke, her voice monotone, void of any lingering emotion. Her bare back rested upon the wooden headboard, his bedroom sheet tucked tightly around her breasts, pooling at her waist. Her eyes were strained against the faded old television screen nestled in the corner of the worn down room while her fingers toyed together, picking at her freshly manicured nails in anxiousness.

He was laying right beside her, the sheet draped swiftly over his groin while his upper exterior was exposed. His hands were folded underneath his head while he stared in content at his deteriorating ceiling with chipped white stars from when he was only a child. Not once had Justin ever brought a girl - let alone a friend to his house, ashamed of the life he was enduring with an absent father, deadbeat mother, and abusive stepfather. Unless it was a male of Mrs. Foley's choosing or one of her late night boyfriends, the older woman didn't want company in her home; at times not evening wanting her own son.

The blonde cheerleader had been an exception.

It took a lot of convincing on Sophie's part to get Justin to agree to take her to his, the pair often sneaking around her own house once her parent's would go to sleep. She understood there was a side to him he desperately wanted to hide and run away from but after all her support and probing that nothing would scare her from his life, he finally agreed. His mother was said to be going on a getaway trip with her newest lover, the same weekend Bryce was to be out of town, so it was a perfect opportunity. However, while in the middle of eating a box of ramen and watching a movie, did his mom stroll right in with a man, high off her horse.

Justin waited for his mother to have an episode and unleash her inner demons but nothing arised. Instead, a smile toyed across her glossed red wrinkled lips and she immediately fell in love with the blonde, referring to her as a younger version of herself - which Justin hated and wished she'd not once voice aloud. He hoped Sophie would turn out nothing like his mother, she was far too pure, far too good... to a certain extent considering where they were now, four months later since that first day.

Leaning up on his left elbow, his hand went to her bare shoulder, causing her to barely jump, tearing her eyes off the blank television. Her long waves were frizzy around her upper half, her lips drastically plump from being devoured in kisses and bites while the right side of her neck and collarbone were tinted pink and purple. When his eyes noticed her fresh baby hickeys, his heart palpitated and eyes widened but he quickly drained his fear and shook it off so it wouldn't cause her to worry. By the way her frame was tense and her eyes were brimmed with tears waiting to free, Justin knew Sophie was already beginning to panic.

This can't happen again.

Both his and her favorite phrase.

"I know," he whispered, squeezing her shoulder softly and placing a closed mouth kissed to her side. Her eyes closed, focusing her attention on the way his mouth touched her so delicately, lingering as if the second he'd pull away, she would crumble into various pieces underneath him. Turning her head, Sophie's nose brushed against his, swaying back and forth in slow motions. Justin's own eyes closed, relishing in their intimate proximity.

They both knew better.

Kat was Sophie's best friend, Kat was his girlfriend.

Bryce was Sophie's boyfriend, and he was Justin's best friend.

The pair were both walking on eggshells waiting to accidentally crack one open and allow its contents to spew. He knew they both couldn't keep going down the road they were. It was getting harder for him, harder to act as if seeing her stride down the hallway in the morning wasn't exactly what he needed to brighten his day, that she was the reason he woke every morning to come to school, as it wasn't her he was looking too on the field sidelines.

Bryce Walker was confident in himself and his relationship but that still didn't mean he didn't want Sophie to have any male friends and hang out with them, especially his best friend. At times he even caught Justin looking Sophie's way but that was quickly killed the moment he pushed him against his locker in the changing room and jokingly threatened him.

And that was way before Sophie and Justin even crossed their forbidden line.

The first time the two kissed, it was no accident. If anything it was a long time coming and once their lips met, it was endgame, there was no turning back and resisting the other if they tried. They knew the consequences of their betrayal would be ugly and though they tried to keep their distance, not texting or calling late at night, sneaking out for late walks, rides, and movie nights; they still managed to come back together in the end.

Justin and Sophie were connected with an invisible tether.

Their breaths fanned each other's face and her hands wrapped around his neck while his hands went to her waist. He tugged on her hips, pulling her to to straddle him, the sheet pooling around their waists. Their faces were brushed together, each clinging to the other as if their life depended on it.

It wasn't the first time they were in this position, this happened every time. They'd get lost in their tongues and wandering skilled hands, douse in each other's natural aura, succumb to devotion. Then once reality returned, hitting Sophie square in the nose, she'd freeze and drown in negativity only for Justin to reassure her in time for both of them to realize this was exactly where they needed to be.

"Leave him Sophie," he whispered, his voice cracking when saying her name. Her hand fell from his cheek but he quickly grabbed it and squeezed it reassuringly in his. "I can't Justin, I just can't."
