Welcome my Trashlings to the guide to different sexualities and genders and their meanings and definitions!
I'd like to add that when I say something about non-binary people in the sexuality section, I mean anyone that doesnt fit under the binary genders of male and female, so I am using it as an umbrella term.
This could be just for educational purposes, for a story you're doing, or if you're trying to figure yourself out! You might even find a label that fits you better as I have recently! So, without further ado, let's get into it shall we?
~Sexualities~
Straight/Heterosexual: Someone who is only attracted to the opposite gender of themselves, refers to trans people as well, usually not for non-binary people.
Homosexual: Someone who is only attracted to the same gender as themselves, refers to trans people as well, usually not for non-binary people.
Gay: Typically referred to a male who is only attracted to other males, refers to trans males as well. However the person who identifies with this sexuality doesnt necessarily have to be male.
Lesbian: Typically referred to a woman who is only attracted to other women, refers to trans women as well. However the person who identifies with this sexuality doesnt necessarily have to be female.
Bisexual/Biromantic: Someone who is attracted to more than one gender, commonly two, as the name suggests, but not always.
Pansexual/Panromantic: Someone who is attracted to another regardless of gender identity. Gender usually plays no role in their attraction and is more so determined by personality.
Omnisexual/Omniromantic: Someone who is attracted to all genders, like Pan, but in this case, gender does play a role, you can be attracted to a gender or two, more than one (e.g. attracted to females and some non-binary people more than males or vice versa, etc.).
Polysexual/Polyromantic: I know what you're probably thinking, polyamorous, but this is completely different actually! Poly, in this case, is similar to Omni, except instead of feeling an attraction to all genders and just liking two a bit more, Poly is when you only feel an attraction towards two genders, such as females and some non-binary pals or males and some non-binary pals, but not the other. It is very similar to bisexuality but more precise. Bi can mean liking more than two genders while this is specific and not as confined to male and female.
Polyamory: Now this is the other Poly! Polyamory is having multiple relationships with consent from all of them, either altogether or one person with more than one other person (let's go with three people for example). All three people could be in a relationship together, or, one person could be in a relationship with both of them, both having consent to agree to both being in a relationship with the same person, but not being in a relationship with each other. This can classify to all genders (depends on the sexuality of each of them) and can be with more than three people.
Asexual: Someone who does not experience sexual attraction to others, THOUGH, that does not mean that they can't have relationships and/or still participate in sexual activities, many asexual individuals still have consensual sex with their partners. Refers to any sexuality.
Aromantic: Someone who has no interest or desire to be in a romantic relationship with someone, HOWEVER, that does not mean that they can't participate in sexual activities or that they still don't have sex/feel a sexual attraction. Nor does it mean that they cannot love someone platonically or even be in a platonic relationship with someone. Many aromantic individuals share a life with a friend and can have children with a friend or even on their own. Refers to any sexuality.
