Chapter 8: old friends and new love

I woke up that Monday morning to a pain in my side. I realized it wasn't because my appendix had burst, but Cillas foot was shoved into my side all night. How cute.
"Wake up." I said pushing her as I got up to take a shower.
Today I want to look hot. So I wore my ripped light blue skinny jeans and a white ballerina top. Cilla wouldn't wake up. So I left her. She'd be dads problem. I went down stairs had some cereal and then I was off to school.
When I got there it felt normal. Nobody stared anymore. Nobody cared anymore. There was a few murmurs here and there but things where starting to die down.
My morning flys by so fast. I have my normal periods of the day same old thing. Riley and I were walking to lunch together.
"So enough about me and Liam... Let's hear about hayes!" She said after rambling on about there first date. Which went very well if you were wondering.
"Riley can we not talk about that."
"Stop being so up tight maddie just let it go and be with him." She said
"I thought we weren't talking about this." I said slightly annoyed that she continues.
"Just admit that you like hayes."
"I don't"
"Just admit it maddie."
"I do not like him"
"Admit it"
"No I don't like him"
"Why can't you admit it!"
I stopped walking
"Because I can't be in love with another boy Riley it doesn't make sense when I was in love with someone else a month ago."
Word vomit.
"Woah. Okay was not expecting that's intense word puke overload. Spill cause I know there's more. " She said and we continue walking.
"No I'm done talking." I say
"No you're not." She said tugging on my arm.
So I spilled.
"I'm scarred of falling for him and getting my heart broken. And in scarred because even though I should just get away from all of this, I can't I just want to be with him more then I've honestly ever really wanted anything. So yeah, I like him okay? so can we move on?"
It felt good to get it out
"We don't have to talk about it any more." She said as we started to walk again.
It was silent.
That wasn't normal for us.
"But come on Hayes Grier can you believe it?" I said grabbing her hands in an over dramatic way
"I know! Hayes freakin Grier!" She she whisper yelled (if that's even a thing).
"I can't let him know, cause i still don't want to have anything." I said
"Why not? Are you like not over Alex?"
I'm am. I wish things were normal. Hayes and feelings isn't normal. Me flirting with someone else isn't normal. But really what is normal? A drunk abusive boyfriend? Pull it together Maddie you know that you what's good for you.
"I am...it's just, things happened suddenly, and I'm waiting to feel normal again."
"Liking Hayes is normal." She Said.
"Then why doesn't it feel like that?" I asked before entering the cafeteria
"Because new love is scary and not your average normal feeling, just take all the time you need, as long as it's not to long cause we don't want him loosing interest."
She saw Liam
"I have to go be a girlfriend now." She said with a giggle and ran over to him once we reached the inside of the cafeteria.
Loose interest? I never thought of that. Does he even have interest? Do I? I do a little not gonna lie. But I have to hide it because it makes no sense. To love someone then to a month later be Involved with someone else.
"Hey mads" he said from behind me
"Hi" I said as I walked into the cafeteria
He walks up next to me.
"So, this weekend," he paused
"What about it?" I asked
"Are we studying?" Hayes asked in reply
"Um yah we have that big chapter test right?"
Good keep it casual.
"Yep." He says
We reach the table that we usually sit at and I go to sit down. A a hand grabs my arm and pulls me aways from my table. I laugh when I realize it was hayes.
"What are you doing? Aren't we Sitting with them?"I ask mid giggle
"Sit here" he says
So I sit at a small table across from hayes.
"You know how I have a game this weekend?" He ask
"Yah." I answer
"I would love for you to come, and maybe come with me to this after game bon fire."
"Yah I'll come."
"Great!" He smiled
I giggled at his giddiness.
"Why couldn't you ask me in front of everyone else?" I asked him
"Because they'll make a big deal out of nothing."
"What do you mean?" I asked
"Well," he stopped himself from saying something, then said "guys and girls can't be just friends to them." He says
Did he just friendzone me?
No, really?
I stand up.
"Your friends aren't always wrong."
I held out my hand.
He smirked.
The he grasp my hand. Our fingers intertwined. I couldn't feel my feet it was like I was walking on air. Butterflies where the only thing I felt as we walked back to that table.
I can't wait till Friday.

It was Friday morning and I was standing by my locker talking to Liam. The wind was knocked out of me and I was lifted off the ground and spun around. I was hysterical in laughter. He set me down and continued to hug me from behind.
"Good morning hayes." I said still giggling
"Isn't it such a great morning?" He said still hugging me.
"Hayes."
I don't want this to end
"Yes."
And i felt it coming
"Don't let go okay?"
Word vomit. Level 9 flirt word vomit.
"You're so cute yah know that?"
And he turned his head and kissed me on the cheek still holding me from behind. I scrunched my nose and smiled.
Riley walked over and grabbed Liam's hand.
She gave me and look.
"You guys look pretty cozy" she said
"You're so weird." I said
Hayes is still holding me in his arms.
Alex walked by. He starred at us. The bruise on his face from where hayes hit him over a month ago, was finally heeled. I looked up at hayes, who didn't notice Alex.
We talked for about a few minutes, Sam and James joined us about a minute before the bell rang. At the sound of the bell Hayes unwrapped his arms from around me.
"I can't wait for later" he said
"Me too." I smiled and walked with Riley to homeroom.
But before leaving the front of my locker, I grabbed Sams hand, and pulled her over.
"Where were you and James before you came by the lockers?" I asked
She blushed.
"Hooking up." She giggled
"WHAT?" Riley scream whispers
(That's defiantly a thing)
"Yah" she said
"Yay now we all have baes!" Riley says grabbing sams hands
"I don't have a bae." I said with a laugh.
"Um then what's hayes?" Sam asked
I'm not sure what hayes is. Or what I want him to be.
"A very close guy best friend."
"Yah okay." Riley says
Then we all went to our homerooms.
