Chapter 9: before november comes halloween

Last weekend. Wow. Every morning when I wake up I'm excited to get to school just to see hayes. And now as I walk to my next class, a huge smile on my face, I never thought I would say I'm excited for math.
I sat down at a 2 person desk next to hayes. "We get those test back today, right?" I asked him
"Yep, you nervous?" He asked me
"Very." If I don't get a perfect score on this test, I will be below the 80's for my average. I could loser my scholarship. But if I get 100, then I could get between 80-85 depending on extra credit.
Hayes reached under the table and grabbed my hand. A shiver sent up my arm and down my spine.
"Don't be mads, it's gonna be okay." He said reassuring me.
With my last name starting with an A, I get my test before Mr. Grier.
"Madison." The teacher said passing me the paper. It was folded in half to hide my grade. That means my grade is either really good or horrible.
"You look." I said passing my paper to Hayes.
He opens the folded paper, and I stare at his face. The side smirk.
"I guess I'm a pretty good tutor." He said flashing the 100% in my face.
100 I DID IT.
"Hayes, thank you so much" I leaned over and hugged him burying my face into his shoulder.
"Anything for my girl." He said
His girl. I'm his girl.
"Hands to our selves back there." The teacher yelled across the room.
Hayes and I laughed. Quietly though, cause this teacher hates us.
Hayes got his paper back. He got a 96.
"Even though I got a 100, you're still tutoring me, you know that?" I said to Hayes.
"Of course." He said
I really really really really really like hayes.

Thursday at lunch.
"So we don't have any games this weekend." James said.
"We should all hang out." Sam said
"On Friday," Riley began, but hayes cut her off.
"Actually I have plans Friday." Hayes said
"What plans?" I asked him with the raise of an eyebrow.
"Plans with you." He chuckled smiling.
All 4 of our surrounding friends looked at us.
"What?" I asked them all
"You're both acting weird." Sam said.
"Yah..." Riley adds.
I sip my water.
"Did you two hook up or something?" Riley ask
I nearly spit my water in her face, because she's sitting across from me.
No I didn't tell Riley and Sam. No reason why. But I'm just not sure if hayes wants a relationship. Well I mean after calling me "his girl" yesterday, I have a good guess he does but I'm still not 100% sure.
"Um..." I said looking at hayes,
Who was looking at the floor.
"I knew it." Riley said.
This is so awkward.
"So" Liam says
"Friday is halloween, and we were all invited to that party at Ryan's Friday night." James said.
"I'm down, what about you ry?" Liam said
"Yeah I'll come." Riley said
"Me too."Sam added
"Yah I'll go after I take my sister trick or treating." I said
"I'll go too." Hayes added
Then everyone talked about the party and costumes. This party's earned like it would be fun. I'm actually very excited but not as excited as I am for me and hayes study date. The thought of it made me smile.

Friday after school hayes drove us to my house. We sat on my bed and we barley did math. We just talked. I couldn't be happier talking to Hayes.
He told jokes, I laughed. It was nice. Then Alex just kinda popped into the convo
"I never had conversations like this with Alex before." I said.
"Why not?" He said it as if talking in a deep conversation was so natural.
"Not every couple has longs talks Hayes. Me and Alex weren't like that."
"How is that a relationship?" He smirked
"It is." I said with a giggle
"Barley." He said with a small chuckle
"Okay like you should know." I said in a sarcastic way.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He said playfully pushing me.
"Well when's the last time you had a serious relationship?" He paused.
"A while." He stared at his feet.
"See and why is that?"
"Because the girl I am crazy about has been taken, well up until about 2 months ago. I just could never tell her, yah know she just couldn't feel the same way it's just impossible, or so I thought...I don't know is it stupid to love you?" He tried to fight the smiled painted on his face. That wasn't the answer I was expecting.
"Me?" I asked stunned. My face heated up fast. I couldn't believe it.
"Hayes..." I looked around my room. I couldn't understand this I thought about it a lot and wanted it to be real but I would never expect this. Love?
"I just..." I began again but I didn't know what to say. The one question that burned in my mind was
"why?" I finally pulled my self together. Hayes Grier likes me. He wants me. He loves me.
He shrugged and laughed a little taking me hand.
"I'm not sure about this Hayes. Things could go wrong trust me I've been there love it's tricky."
"Why would things go wrong? I'm not like him." He's right he's nothing like Alex.
"Youre not. But I don't wanna rush things." I was getting nervous. I'm never nervous around Hayes.
"Then we don't rush things.i could wait, I've been waiting. " I had these weird feelings that kept flying around my stomach. I subconsciously did what I've been wanting to do since I was sitting on that toilet in hayes bathroom. I've always liked him. I dropped my math books. I leaned over and i gently press my hand against his face as I kissed him. All of a sudden Hayes was on top of me and we were making out. Just like the other night at the bonfire.It felt so right to do this. Even though I didn't want to rush things I still wanted to make out with him. But then it was ruined. My door swung open.
"Hey Maddie dad wants to know if you're gonna take me...woah!" Cilla.
I sat up. Hayes fell off my bed and hit the floor.
"Cilla! Learn to knock!" I yelled.
She nodded nervously.
"Is he okay?" She asked.
Hayes sat up.
"Leave!" I pointed down the hall. She shut the door.
Hayes stood up and sat on my bed.
"Hayes are you okay?" I grabbed his hand. He looked down. Then at me.
"Yah." He smiled and held my hand back.
"I should really get a lock on that door." I said with a small laugh. That would've been perfect if Cilla didn't come in.
"So." He said.
"So..." I replied.
"Where were we?" He asked
"Um..." I wasn't sure what he was asking
"With the math." He said with a laugh.
"Oh yeah." I grabbed my book. I much rather be making out with him then studying.
But after 5 minutes of equations I was dead.
"Let's not do anymore math, let's go somewhere."
"I want to, but I have to take skylynn trick or treating . So I gotta leave soon" He said.
"Aw, but math is so fun." I say sarcastically.
"I know, but I'll see you at that party maybe."
"Why wait to be together?"I say cutely
"What do you mean?" He asked
"Cilla and skylynn are friends they can go trick or treating together. And then they can have a sleepover here. So we could hang out tonight."
"I like how you think."
His joy was adorable.
"So it's a plan." I laugh.
"Yep."
"Good"
I moved in closer and closer to Hayes. Now, I can here him breathe. Then I kiss him.
"I like you a lot." He said as I pull away
"I like you way more." I reply

So we set things up and we got the little sisters taken care of. Mrs Rosemen from down the street was happy to take the girls with her own kids. So me and hayes we're going to that party at ryans after all.
At 7:30 the doorbell rang. I was sitting in the kitchen talking to my dad about things.
"It's open!" I yell
Hayes walks in.
"Hi." I say.
He walked into my kitchen.
"Hello mads, Mr. A" hayes said. He's so adorable and polite. Aw.
"Dad this is hayes."
My dad nodded.
We kinda sat there as my dad stared hayes down. I realized how awkward the situation got so I said,
"Hayes we should get going"
"Yeah." So we walked towards the door.
"Don't be home so late maddie." My dad shouted.
"I won't."
And then we went to ryans.
I was so excited to see all my old friends again. Well not my old friends any more. More like my crew now.
The party was lit. There were so manny people from school and people from all over town.
Me Livy and leila the identical twin sisters (who I couldn't tell apart until after the fourth grade), had an amazing conversation on so many things with me. Just talking. I saw my crew Amanda casey sam Riley and Kate, who caught me up on all the drama. I missed at the bonfire after me and hayes left. And made plans to go shopping at the mall the flowing weekend. Then I went over by hayes, who was hanging out with caseys boyfriend the host of the party Ryan, Kates boyfriend Joe and a few other of the guys from the team. I thought it was funny how everyones known everyone since like birth. Me sam Riley amanda casey and kate called our selves the "6 chicks" like from that movie 13 going on 30. The crew of my high school friends and middle school friends and probably about 100 other kids I could think of that I loved hanging out with, were all with me. And certain people took me away from all this. It was at that moment, as I sat next to hayes on this couch, in this enormous basement,in the slutty costume I changed into when I got here because my father would never let me walk out of the house as a playboy bunny (me Sam Riley Casey Amanda and of course Kate twinned being different colored bunnies), hearing the guys talk about the game and other things, that I realized hayes and I are perfect for each other. I stared at him talking. He crinkles his nose when he doesn't know what to say. The same way he does when he tutors me and figure out a math problem. Studying his expressions, like how his eyes squint and his cheeks raise when he laughs, or how he talks with his hands when he's trying to make a point. My personal favorite, the side smirk he gives me every once and a while when he we hang out, just cause I can't help but stare at him and he enjoys catching me. I realized that I've liked hayes. For a longer while then I thought. I had forgotten what it was like to have real fun. Real Non-influenced fun. With real people.
"I'm telling you," Joe laughed
"There's no way the principal was a stripper!" Ryan laughed with him
"No she was!" Chris said
Hayes put his arm around me as we all laughed.
Katelyn and Casey walked over. Kate sat next to Joe, casey on ryans lap.
Joe kisses Kate on the cheek then neck.
"Watch it, that's my little sister."
Ryan said trying to be tuff in a joking way. Just like when we were little.
"Yah well that's my little sister so back off." See best friends, (Ryan and joe) liked each others sisters, who were best friends (kate and casey). Like meant to be's.
Hayes looked at me and smiled.
"I'm happy you don't have a brother." He joked.
"And why is that?" I asked
Hayes gave me a side smirk.
Hotttttttttt!
"Because of you had a brother then I couldn't do this." He says
He leans over and kisses me.
My stomach it's filled up butterflies and I feel like I'm floating.
I guess this is what love feels like.
