You tuck your knees into your chest and stare at the boy across the table. His gunmetal blue eyes stay trained on the board in front of both of you in deep thought while his feminine features twitch slightly while attempting to read every possible outcome that could occur.
Everyone else that you had invited over to hang out left over half an hour ago, leaving you and Akaashi alone. At first, it was a tad bit awkward. Out of everyone in your friend group, you were the least close to him. But then, his eyes drifted to the vintage wooden chess board on display in your basement, and soon after you had struck up a game.
His fingers finally hover above a piece, moving it to take your queen. You sigh as so far, he had nearly half of your pieces, while you only three of his.
"How'd you get so good at chess?" You mumble while playing with the bow your mom had pinned in the back of your hair. You had begged her not to, because this was the first real hang out you had hosted with both bogs and girls. Despite this, your mom still attempted to 'hang' with you guys and get in on all the 'gossip. You had refused. Obviously.
Even though the hangout only consisted of you guys getting pizza and watching a movie, you wanted it to be special. You wanted to watch a rated-R movie and binge drink soda until your stomach hurt.
The last thing you wanted was a stupid pink, frilly now in your hair.
He shrugs, "I used to play with my sister every day before bed before she went to university," a faint smile plays on his lips at the memory, "She's good, probably better than I'll ever be."
You chuckle and move your bishop to take his knight, giving out a small cheer while doing so. He shows a smile and resumes his staring match with the board.
Akaashi always had that look about him. Like he was deep in philosophical thoughts about different world views.
"Checkmate," He mumbles while moving a piece.
You stare deadpanned at the board, in utter disbelief that you hadn't noticed where you left your king vulnerable. Letting out a huff, you cross your arms, "Fine, what do you want?"
"Huh?"
"Are you sure you grew up with siblings?" You ask with a laugh, "Usually when you win a game or something like that, you something from the other person. So what do you want?"
He twitches his nose slightly, something that always happens when he's just slightly nervous. "Have you ever kissed anyone?"
"Y-Yeah," You lie. It was only your second year, yet nearly all of your friends had kissed people. The summer going into this year, you made up a lie that a boy had kisses you on the beach. Might as well make it consistent.
He hums in response, "Then I want a kiss from you."
Your mouth pops open in shock. Never, ever, in the years that you had known Akaashi had you thought that there was even the possibility that he could like you like that. Of course, you weren't the most perceptive person, but still, surely you would have caught on to something.
"W-What do you m-mean?" You ask shakily with his dark eyes staring at you intently.
"I won, so I want a kiss from you," He says nonchalantly.
"But why?"
He shrugs and runs a hand through his hair. It was clear that he was trying to play it off cool, but the faint blush on his cheeks made it clear that he too was surprised that he had it too. Twice.
"All the boys have had their first kisses, but I haven't. I don't really care about my first kiss, but their teasing has gotten annoying. I thought that since you've already had yours, it wouldn't matter to you either," He stands up and moves to sit beside you, with just a few inches separating your hip from his, "So can I kiss you?"
You look into his eyes, which stared back into yours intently. "D-Do you like me Akaashi?" You say in barely a whisper.
He moves his hand to cup your cheek, scooching closer to you. "Not like that. This is more of a favor anyways."
"Ok," You say, moving slightly closer to him, "You can kiss me."
He nods his need slowly and leans down to you. You take in a sharp breath and close your eyes as his lips barely graze against yours as if teasing you.
Just as you expected an intense make-out session as you had seen in the movies, he pulls away completely.
"Hmm, that wasn't all it's cracked up to be."
You stare at him dumbfounded. Did he actually think that's how you kiss someone? His lips barely even touched mine! For someone with such good grades, he's such a dumbass!
"That because that's not how you kiss someone," You mutter and grip the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer until you felt his hot breath on your lips. After the shortest moment of looking into his eyes, you fully press your lips onto his.
It wasn't what you had expected. There were no fireworks, no butterflies in your stomach, or drumming in your heart. The only thought that went through your head was that his lips were slightly chapped.
After a few seconds, you pull away and drop your hand, your breathing slightly labored like his.
He stares at you for a moment, then hums, "That was better, but still not what I thought it would be like."
You chuckle softly and shake your head, even though the same exact thought was running through your mind. "Maybe if you were kissing someone you actually liked then it would feel different."
He shrugs and moves back to the other side of the table, "Maybe one day I'll feel it differently with you."
Your eyebrows knit together as you purse your lips, "I can't tell if your joking or not."
He chuckles, "Good, I like to keep you on your toes."
