Another day at the office, filled with the usual chaos that we'd all get ourselves into - and somehow we still managed to get work done. One of the many things I loved about working here was that we could all be complete nutcases with each other while we did our jobs so it didn't feel like such a grind to do things.
Today, I was making the thumbnail for the Hat's Rocket League VODs, brainstorming some ideas for new merch they'd asked for and streaming some more Pokemon Soul Silver Nuzlite with Lydia and Harry. Sounded jam-packed but I couldn't wait!
As per usual, I arrived with Ross and greeted a few of my Yogfriends (mainly Simon, Nina and Daf) who I saw on the way to Hat Films office. Ross and I were having some wacky conversation about bees when we entered the room to Chris, who was always early with Mochi, and Alex, who only started getting here before us since we had that talk a few weeks ago. Alex immediately noticed me and gave me a big smile
"Hi, Marnie," He said, then quickly added "Hey, Ross," at the end to not draw attention to us.
'Us' could I even call him and I 'us'?
I waved at him in return while giving him a soft look, one that I'd gotten quickly used to hiding in plain sight from everybody but Alex.
"Right let's start planning our next Hat Films video!" Chris chimed in, clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention - including Mochi who barked in response.
The terrible trio quickly agreed to plan so I smiled to myself and sat down at my desk to start my own work. Loading up my monitor, checking my work folder before I started to make sure I had no extra jobs I needed to do then finally opened Photoshop to start working on the thumbnail.
It was about 2-3 hours before lunch rolled around, during that time I noticed Alex glancing over at me a few times, making me blush slightly, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't glimpse at him occasionally as well.
This had become something of a routine to us over the past two weeks, shooting each other secret gazes, it was hard not to as our desks were right next to one another. Ever since we started this thing, we'd coped with keeping it away from everybody else - including Ross. I say 'thing' because I didn't know what else to call it. Yes, we'd come clean about our feelings to one another but we didn't actually make it official; we weren't friends yet we weren't really boyfriend and girlfriend. For now, I think we were both comfortable being open of how we felt and letting things develop naturally.
"I'm going to go get some food from the kitchen," Ross announced as he pushed himself up using his chair.
"I'll join you mate, I'm starving!" Chris exclaimed. Ross grinned at the shorter man with a thumbs up and they left the office room together, leaving Alex and me alone.
I suddenly felt more relaxed just the two of us. We didn't have to be restricted to a longing view anymore.
"I saw you staring, Marn," He smirked, finally turning around to face me (with me doing the same)
"Yeah? Well, you can't talk, I saw that naughty peek at my bum, Alexander" I commented, with a small snigger.
He then gave me a wide, warm, lopsided, smile complete with his comforting, blue, orbs that seemed to glisten while looking at me. After a few seconds, he got up to come over to me and gave me a sweet kiss on the forehead. I felt my cheeks heat up at this and once he finished I quickly pecked him on the nose.
We hadn't actually kissed on the lips during this, whatever you want to call it, relationship (even though we'd already done that while he was drunk) but neither of us cared. These moments were lovely with him.
"So, want to go out to Mackies together for lunch?" He asked, looking slightly insecure when he did so.
I gave him a mix of a concerned and confused look.
"I'd love to but won't it seem a bit suspicious if we just go out, alone together, in the middle of the day?" I questioned.
We were both worried that our friends would find out too soon before we made sense of what we were doing with each other but I was particularly on edge because of Ross.
"We can just tell them we both fancied a McDonald's and I didn't have any room in my car for anyone else because it's packed with a bunch of stuff to help Rory move," He suggested "Plus, let's be honest, McDonald's isn't a normal place for a date, I can be a lot classier than that,"
"So you want a date do ya?" I grilled.
Alex nodded with a big toothy grin and wide-eyes, like a little child. I rolled my eyes with a smirk then agreed, making him very excited.
"Shall we go then, m'lady?" He beamed, lowering himself down slightly and offering his hand for me to take.
"We shall," I giggled, taking it happily.
We didn't leave holding hands, so people wouldn't see us, but we did make our way to the fast-food place together in his car, after telling Chris where we were going and feeding him our made-up excuses.
How we were right now, I felt like silly teenagers doing rebellious things and sneaking around, stealing quick moments from the world so we could grow closer together and express ourselves but for the time being, it made me feel just a bit more thrill this way. Even though I knew that feeling wouldn't last forever, hopefully, we'd tell everyone soon and actually make ourselves official.
This was enough right now though.
