His Secret

"I will tell you my secret."

In a split second, the whole school turned like a prayer meeting place as the silence ate the area. The students just kept looking at each other for not more than two seconds, before making the guy in the center looks like a laughingstock at a freak show.

"What now, Shiloh? Alam na namin 'yang ganyang linya. You've been telling that to different girls in campus since our 3rd year. Grow up, man! Grade 12 na tayo!"

From my peripheral view, I saw my best friend yelled at the guy in front of me.

"What about it? Wala naman akong paki alam sa sasabihin niyo. Hayaan ninyo naman akong kausapin 'tong babae dit--"

"'Yun na nga 'yung problema, bro!"

Biglang nawala sa tabi ko si Vernon, at kasabay nang pagbitaw niya ng kanyang mga salita ay ang pagkuwelyo niya sa lalaki. Ni hindi man lang natapos ng lalaki ang kanyang sinasabi, ngunit anong magagawa ko? Vernon's a protective boyfriend after all.

He's been there for me since last year. My grandparents trust him so much, while my parents, they're already in heaven. I badly want them to meet Vernon, because ever since I lost them in an accident, he's the only one aside from my family and friends who truly cared for me until I recover from mourning.

"Do you even know who Kaira is?" instead of yelling angrily at his face, he lowered his voice and smirked at him.

Everyone seems to be waiting for him to say more, but Vernon surprisingly kicked the man's chest. I never saw Vernon act like this until now. I'm used to see him as a gentle and calm person. Every person that knows him admires him because of the best personality that he possess.

His an achiever. Although in junior high, he's not that academically great, in senior high, I can see how hard he studeies. It's because he told me he protects the image of their family business.

Just like him, our family runs a company. I'll be the only heiress of course. I'm not glad. I've never been grateful because of the fact that one day I'll be left alone.

"Let's go, Kaira?" Gwen, my best friend who just yelled at the guy they called Shiloh clinged on me.

She acted like nothing happened, so as the students who watched the scene while walking away. Vernon followed us after saying something to that guy. Before getting totally dragged by them, I looked at Shiloh and saw him staring at nothing, blankly.

This day is the first day that I met him. And even though I don't know him, I don't want to be so impulsive just like others.

Anyways, this is a strange day and I'm sure that this would happen only once in 365 days,

but...

"Kaira!"

The next day, while reviewing in the library with my two usual companions, someone suddenly shouted my name.

Nang suriin ko kung kanino galing iyon, nakita ko ang isang lalaki sa gitna ng malawak na aisle na humihiwalay sa dalawang bahagi ng silid-aklatan. Nakatayo siya doon habang ang mga mata at labi ay nakangiti. Nang mapatda ang mga mata ko sa kamay niya, hindi ko maiwasang magtaka kung bakit mayroon siyang dalang tatlong tangkay ng puting chrysanthemum. Huwag niyang sabihing ibibigay niya iyon.
