Chapter 6

I woke up at night the next day. Holy crabcakes today I was suppose to go back! I stumbled up to a stand and only managed to hold on my knees of support. I suddenly coughed, and black dust followed the cough. Every muscle in my bone was aching, I had stinging cuts and bruises everywhere, and boiling burns that hurt like hell. I looked up at the stars, searching for the Moon. When I found it, I tried to remember what steps I took. I remember falling down a hill, and looked up to spot one just ahead. I stumbled over the hill until I reached the top, then I sat down with a sigh and scanned around. I felt something digging in my shoulder , and took it off to see a very burned bag. I ripped open the bag and searched for anything useful. Some food was saved and the bottle of water survived, along with the knife, though sadly everything in the first-aid kit was burned. I took out the now not useful stuff and ate some food and took a gulp of water before getting up and trudging the way I think I came from.

It took me about 3 hours to find the fence. When I found it I found the door locked. I guess they feared that the enemies might enter through the fence. I took out my knife and fiddled with the lock. Finally, I heard a rewarding click and the door swung open. I stumbled out, still thinking about the 2 miles ahead. It took many falls, cuts, bruises, and a horrible jab in the leg of a sticking out stick that pierced my leg to finally come out onto the open field after 2 hours. There, I saw a lone figure sitting with its back at me. I had already eaten and drank the rest of the food and water I had so my mouth was parched and I felt dizzy from all the hits I took. I stumbled towards the figure, and as I reached eye distance I saw it was Cody. A spark of hope flared inside me, making my heart soar. I stopped and took deep breaths, and with all the strength I could muster, yelled, " Cody!" before stumbling to the ground on fours. I saw Cody whirl around in surprise, and when he saw me his face showed bursting happiness and fear at my current state. I saw him take out a phone and run towards me when I fully collapsed on the ground and blacked out.

I awoke in a hospital bed with a very concerned face just a few inches away from mine. I let out a scream, which made the face let out one too. I quickly punched the face without looking, hearing a painful moan and thud.

" Really. You save a girl and THAT'S your reward." The face muttered.

I suddenly remember everything that happen.

The Rain.

The Fire.

Waking up.

Finding Cody.

Yelling for Help.

Falling down.

I slowly moved into a sitting position and looked down at the source of the voice. It was none other then Cody, sprawled on the floor, rubbing his head.I grinned sheepishly and reached out my hand and Cody happily took it. With some effort, I managed to get Cody up, only to have him fall on my lap. I rolled my eyes and looked down at Cody who was trying to look innocent.

" You can get off my lap now." I said.

"No thank you. It's very comfy." He replied with a pat on my knee. He made me remember about the scar on my leg and I frantically looked at my clothes, letting out a sigh of relief to see I was still wearing the matted clothes.

" Cody," I said sweetly, with a smile.

" Yes Aimee?" He replied, completely oblivious of the pain he's about to encounter.

" I'd like you to meet floor."

Before he could react, I jerked my legs up, causing Cody to be thrown on the floor. I looked down at stated , " Floor, meet Cody. I think you two have met." Before throwing my legs to the side and getting up. While Cody scrambled up, I detached myself from the wires poking me. Cody looked like he wanted to protest, but he just stared confusingly.I walked out of the room, and sharply turned towards mine, Cody following me like a lost puppy. When I reached my door I remembered how I was suppose to tell Cody to stop trying to be a social outcast just because of me. I turned around, looked up at Cody's eyes and explained, " Look, Cody. I want you to go hang out with people. Have fun. I don't want you to turn into some social outcast because of me. I want you to go enjoy."
