In the early 1900's, a young boy named Robert Eugene Otto, who everyone called Gene, was given a handmaid doll by a servant that worked for his parents in his home. Gene named the doll Robert, and it wasn't long before Gene got attached to the doll.
While Robert seemed like a normal doll at first, it wasn't long before Robert was involved in strange, and even terrifying, events. One night when Gene was ten, he awoke to the sight of Robert the Doll sitting at the foot of his bed staring at him. Moments later Gene's mother woke to the sound of Gene crying for help and furniture being thrown about in Gene's bedroom. When she was finally able to get the door open, she found her son curled up in fear on his bed, his room torn apart, and Robert the Doll still sitting at the foot of his bed.
Nobody knows how that happened, since Robert was just a toy. Right? But the weird and inexplainable things didn't stop there. Gene's parents would hear their son talking to Robert and getting a different voice in response. They reported hearing the doll speak and witnessing his expression change, giggling and sightings of Robert rushing up the stairs or staring out the upstairs window were also reported. But Robert continued living with Gene though his life, after Gene's parents passed he moved back to his home with his wife, Anne. Gene decided that the doll needed a room of his on and placed him in the upstairs room that had a window overlooking the street.
Anne always felt uneasy with Robert in the house and wanted Gene to lock the doll in the attic. To please his wife (simp) he locked the doll in the attic. But Robert the Doll was not happy with this. Visitors reported hearing footsteps in the attack, the sound of someone pacing back and forth, and devilish giggling. Children reported seeing Robert watching them from the windows in the upstairs bedrooms and said the doll was mocking them as they went to school. Gene investigated, knowing he had locked Robert in the attic and there was no way he could be sitting at the window. But to his shock, he found the doll sitting in a rocking chair in front of the window upstairs. Gene locked Robert in the attic several times, always finding him sitting in the rocking chair by the window in the same upstairs bedroom.
Gene died in 1974 and when a new owner moved into the home, their ten year old daughter found Robert the Doll in the attic. But her delight ended when she claimed Robert was alive and wanted to hurt her. She often woke in the middle of the night screaming in fear and told her parents that Robert had moved around the room. It wasn't long before Robert the Doll was given away, he now lives in East Martello Fort where visitors from all over the world come to see him.
Nobody truly knows the origin behind Robert's evil, but there is one theory that seems to stick around. The servant that gave Gene the doll cursed the doll with Voodoo and Black Magic to punish her bosses. That might explain the evilness around the doll. (But wouldn't the curse end when the owner dies??)
Robert the Doll continues to terrorize those who come to visit him, especially those who wish to take a picture of him. Robert the Doll sits inside a glass case, but it doesn't stop him from giving the museum staff and visitors mild discomfort. Staff members report that Robert's facial expression changes, hearing childlike giggling, and even seeing Robert shift around in his glass case. However there has been no solid evidence of Robert hurting someone, so maybe you'll be safe if you decide to go visit him.
But no promises.
I fucking hate dolls, writing this gave me the creeps. Sit me in the room with a possessed doll and a porcupine, I will cuddle that fucking porcupine to get out of there. Sorry for cursing...
