there was nothing you hated more than public transport.
having to sit, or even worse, stand, in a shared space with a bunch of unknowns, who you could most likely buy within seconds, did not sound appealing to you. at all. but it was christmas, which meant that all of your drivers, who would normally be free to drive you wherever you wanted with a snap of your fingers, were on their christmas break, leaving you with no other choice but to board a train.
"idiots. they get paid way too much to take breaks." you mutter angrily to yourself under your breath as you sit on one of the benches at the train station, your leather detailed gucci suitcase perching beside you.
your parents were in seoul for a business trip, and they'd been there for a couple of days. they wouldn't return until the next week, so they thought it would just be easier for you to go to them, instead of them coming to you. your christmas would then be spent together in a luxury hotel room. the idea didn't seem too bad when you were first introduced to it, but now, as you shudder from the icy wind, you decide that it definitely wasn't worth it.
grey clouds cover the sky like a blanket, clusters of intricate white snowflakes vigorously falling from them. the air is glacial, with not even your thickest burberry coat protecting you from the howling wind. you wrap your arms around yourself, desperately trying to warm yourself up, but to no avail.
finally, your train arrives.
lugging your suitcase behind you, you step onto the train, thankful that it's much warmer than it is outside. you make sure that the carriage you choose to settle into is empty, so you don't have to be around any middle class randoms. your plan to be alone was working fine, until you hear the sound of heavy footsteps nearing, like someone was running to make their train on time.
you look up, and every cell in your body sighs with vexation at the sight of kim taehyung slipping through the closing automatic train doors, entering your passenger car. he wears a ridiculous looking hat that you wouldn't be caught dead in, and holds a carry-on travel bag.
taehyung looks around the carriage for a good place to sit, and meets eyes with you. a jolt of electricity runs up your spine as you make eye contact with each other, breaking it almost immediately. you relax at the fact that he doesn't acknowledge your existence and sits as far away from you as possible.
it's a smooth ride for about thirty minutes, until the snow picks up and begins swirling with more aggression, and the train comes to an abrupt stop, almost jerking you right out of your seat. you look around in confusion, instinctively looking to the closest human, who happens to be taehyung, who happens to look at you as well.
the intercom crackles with static before the train driver's voice can be clearly heard.
"ladies and gentlemen, it appears that the train has become stuck due to bad weather. with a snowstorm like this, we could be here for up to twelve hours..."
the driver's words fade out once you hear how long you could be stuck for. your mouth drops in utter shock. you didn't think you could manage one hour, let alone twelve.
"close your mouth," a voice on the other side of carriage catches your attention, "dead skin cells are coming out of it."
your mouth falls even wider upon hearing taehyung speak to you with no respect in his tone whatsoever. the corner of his lips curves upwards slightly, amused at your surprised expression.
it was at that moment that you realised, this was going to be the longest twelve hours of your life.
