three

Kai waited around on the beach alone. He told Beomgyu that he would go home later since he loved the beach very much.

It was like his home.

He sat on a rock, watching the palm trees gently sway around in the breeze and how beautifully the waves touched the sand every time they came close.

It was so beautiful. Kai wishes to live in a house beside the beach one day.

Daydreaming, he smiled. Satisfied with the life he had.

All he had to do was study hard and pass tests to become a marine biologist.

Not too hard, right?

Not hard for him, at least.

His daydreaming was cut short as he heard someone splashing and coughing near the shore.

The young boy turned around, looking for the source of the sound.

He then found it. It was unbelievable.

He blinked a few times to make sure that he wasn't hallucinating.

He saw the face of the same man that saved him from being drowned. It was the merman.

The handsome and beautiful flower-like man who looked so charming and desirable, except that he had no tail anymore.

He only had legs.

The man that looked up at him with a shocked look.

Kai looked back, absolutely astonished. Out of instinct, he got up and slowly walked over to the man.

The young man looked up to him, his eyebrows furrowing in fear and confusion.

He looked scared and so innocent.

Just like a fallen jasmine flower on a pond.

"Hey.. what happened?" Kai cautiously spoke. The man who covered himself up with his hands timidly looked up at him.

"A-ah.. I..." He bit his lip and looked down.

"Don't be afraid, I'm not going to harm you.." Kai gently spoke.

"I know who you are, that's all.." The young boy knelt down and looked at the handsome man in the eyes.

"You saved me. I'm thankful for that." Kai gently touched his shoulder.

The man's skin was pale, yet unbelievably smooth and soft.

It was cold like a hard sheet of ice since he was in the water.

"You.. know who I am?" The handsome man spoke.

"Yes, of course. I've seen you so many times before on this beach. How could I forget that face of yours?" Kai spoke.

"Are you.. not scared of me?" The young man asked with the worried expression on his face.

"Of course not. There's nothing threatening about you." Kai blinked a few times.

"N-nothing threatening..? But.. a-aren't you afraid of my kind?" The man asked, his cheeks becoming slightly flushed.

"No, I guess not because.. ever since I first saw you, I believed that your people were real. It was as if a fairy tale came to life within me." The boy explained.

The look on the man's face was enchanted. It was the first time their two worlds collided like that.

"I've also watched too many movies about mermaids, so there's nothing to be afraid of, right?" The young boy said with a cheeky smile on his face.

"I guess not.." The man slightly pouted.

"Anyway, what are you doing here as a human?" Kai asked with curiosity.

He still wasn't sure about what his eyes were showing him, so he pinched himself and it turns out that it wasn't a dream, but it was real.

"I have to um.. fix a curse." The man said. "If you don't mind me asking, what type of curse is it? I'm kind of curious." Kai grinned.

"It's um... I have to settle scores with a.. a past lover." The man said with a slightly suspicious tone, but Kai didn't think much of it.

"Believe it or not, my.. uh. Past lover... Reincarnated into you." The man said.

"Oh, is that so?" Kai asked, more curious.

"Ahaha.. yeah." The man said.

"Well, I'll take you to my house and then maybe we can settle things down. You'll catch a cold if you don't come with me, you know!" The younger said in a cute tone, making the man flustered.

"Yeah, I'll come with you.." he said, a slight smile coming into his face.

Once they were done talking, Kai took a towel and wrapped the man.

The two had trouble walking back home since the man didn't know how to walk, so Kai had to carry him.

They walked back to Kai's home, careful so that nobody would suspect anything.

Once they reached the house, that was when everything began to happen.

They introduced themselves to each other and talked, though Kai still couldn't believe that he was talking to a merman and not a human.

Maybe it would be different with someone like him around. In all honesty, he was just happy to make the man happy because he was his "past lover".

Well, that's what Kai thought, anyway.
