Harry was waiting on the steps of Hogsmeade station. There was a small crowd of people waiting for the coming train. Kids waiting for their friends to return from the holidays. Parents seeing their children off. Teens going home from a visit. Harry was waiting for Ron and Hermione. He couldn't wait to see them. But most of all he couldn't wait to see Draco.
He and Draco had been writing to each other nearly every day when Draco had left for his trip with his parents. At first, Harry was worried the letters were going to be awkward and disconnected. He needn't have been worried because the first letter Harry received was in the evening on the day Draco had left, and was three pages long. He hadn't even reached his parents yet.
Harry had spent the rest of his holidays enjoying the company of Mcgonagall and Dumbledore and a couple of his favourite teachers. Harry chuckled as he remembered the time he had gone to Hagrid's for tea and Hagrid had proudly presented a large light purple umbrella with a long sleek handle.
"It came from Draco! It's even purple. Bless him," Hagrid had said as he carefully placed it next to the fire.
He still hadn't thrown out his old ratty torn pink umbrella yet even though it was no longer any use to him. Harry reckoned it was probably for memory's sake.
Harry looked up at the sky. It was a beautiful sunny day. Perfect for students to come back home. He watched a small group of preteens tearfully bid their friend goodbye. He cringed wondering if he was ever that young and small when a small boy clutching a toy kneazle started jumping up and down shouting "The train's here mummy! The train's here!"
Indeed it was. The Hogwarts express came puffing into the station blowing its whistle. Excited faces of the younger students were pressed up against the glass while older students sat joking with their mates, the novelty obviously had worn off. Harry kept an eye out for anyone he recognised.
There was Neville. Neville waved at him eagerly through a window. Harry smiled and waved back. Luna was there with her owl-like glasses and hideous radish earrings. Harry waved at her too but she seemed absorbed in her own world at the moment. He saw a flash of red hair and he waved at Ginny who went to sit down next to Luna. She waved back and poked Luna grinning. Luna momentarily looked up at Ginny. She smiled dreamily and then stared off into the distance again.
The train chugged to a halt and the doors opened. Students piled out reuniting with friends they missed on the train and kids from the village. There was laughter and shouting from all directions. A couple of kids from his year called hello and he waved.
Out of the corner of his eye saw a flash of blonde hair. He pushed through the crowd in pursuit. He called out "Draco!" but no response as the station was packed and noisy. He caught up and realised it hadn't been Draco at all. It was a tall Ravenclaw girl with blonde hair cut short. She looked at him suspiciously.
"Sorry, I thought you were someone else," Harry explained, feeling like an idiot.
The blonde girl nodded her understanding and walked off. Harry frowned watching her go. Where was Draco? Maybe Harry wouldn't see him until they got back to school. That was okay but Harry wanted to meet Draco at the station.
"Miss me, Potter?" A voice spoke.
Harry whirled around and there was Draco. Except he looked a little different since he had last seen him. He was wearing his Slytherin uniform. But it was a warm day so he was just wearing black trousers and a white button-down shirt with his house symbol embroidered on it.
His short hair was no longer combed back and gelled in place, it was ruffled and fell gently over his eyes. He had some sort of black gem earring in his right ear which glistened in the sunlight. Best of all Draco was smiling. His face was happy and warm despite his pale skin. His grey eyes were bright and cheerful. Harry was momentarily speechless.
"What's the matter, Potter? Swallow a toad?" Draco asked.
"What with the earring?" Harry said at last.
"This old thing?" Draco touched his right ear. " A gypsy in Romania did it for me," Draco said.
"You look like a twat," Harry said grinned.
Draco threw back his head and laughed. Laughter looked good on him. He walked forward and wrapped his arms around Harry's neck. Harry's heart fluttered.
"You're a dickhead Potter," Draco said.
"Takes one to know one Malfoy," Harry replied.
Malfoy chuckled and kissed him. Harry's heart pounded. Draco's lips were soft and warm. Harry tasted the familiar taste of lemongrass and peach on Draco's mouth. He felt Draco's hands run through his hair. Harry's hands rested on Draco's hips. He could feel Draco smiling through the kisses.
"What the bloody hell did we miss?!"
Draco and Harry broke apart to see Ron and Hermione. Ron's freckled face was shocked and Hermione's mouth was open so wide it might have hit the floor. Draco and Harry blushed and stepped away from each other. Harry looked around. It turns out quite a few other students were watching. They pointed fingers and whispered.
Harry wanted to hide. His entire face was hot and he wanted to run away. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Draco's face was red with embarrassment. But then put his arm around Harry and glared at the onlookers.
Ron said nothing. He silently walked over to where Fred and George were standing and reached into his pocket. He handed some money to Fred and George who were now grinning liking idiots. He looked back at Harry.
"I lost the bet," Ron explained, shrugging.
"Neville you owe me five sickles!" Ginny called out.
"Haha! I win, Seamus!" Dean called out.
Seamus frowned and turned to Harry "Bloody hell, Harry. You couldn't have at least waited five more weeks?" he said.
"Oi! Crabbe! Goyle! Pay up!" Pansy stepped forward, smirking.
The kids started shouting. Some looked angry and annoyed. Others looked happy or pleased. A loud voice called out over the noise.
"Children! What is the meaning of this?" Professor McGonagall walked through the students.
"They've been making bets Professor," A Head boy told her.
"Betting? I am very disappointed in you. You know full well that underage betting is illegal-" Mcgonagall scolded.
"But Professor! Malfoy and Harry finally snogged!" Ginny said.
Professor McGonagall froze. Slowly she turned to Ginny.
"What did you say?" she asked quietly.
"Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy finally got together," Ginny repeated.
McGonagall went quiet. "I see..." she turned around, picked up her skirts and started walking briskly away.
Harry was scared. This could mean trouble.
"Professor where are you going?" Fred shouted after her as she hurried away.
Professor McGonagall stopped and turned towards them, her eyes were twinkling and she smiled.
"It seems Mr Weasley that Albus owes me 20 sickles,"
