IN WHICH Armani Jacobs is sure that he's got the part of Troy Bolton in the school musical, but then Ricky Bowen comes in

ARMANI HAD BEEN waiting his whole life ( well, actually for three years, since he first joined East High's theatre department ) for the opportunity to play a lead in the school musical, and he saw his big chance in the school's production of High School Musical.
HE SPENDS DAYS working on his technique and monologue and analyzes the original movies to the last detail. When it's time for auditions, he feels prepared, but also nervous: this is his only chance to get his parents to finally notice him in a long time.
HIS AUDITION GOES well, and when he's finished his rendition of Start Of Something New, Miss Jenn and his future castmates seem to be impressed. He's almost positive that he's got the role of Troy, but then, Ricky Bowen barges in, fifteen minutes too late and with a guitar case in his hand.
WITH HIS UNDENIABLE charm, the other boy wraps everyone watching around his finger-except Armani. He immediately knows what's up: Ricky, who usually hung out with the Skaters and had never shown any interest in theatre, only wanted to join the show to get his ex-girlfriend back. He decides to confront Ricky about it- and ends up falling for the boy who stole his role.

—— okay so armani is my baby and i love him. he's very determined and ambitious and can be very stubborn, but he also cares a lot about people, even the ones he doesn't want to care about
—— he doesn't get a lot of attention from his parents ( you can decide why ) and he's been waiting for a chance to play the lead in a musical so his parents would finally notice him
—— so he auditions for troy and is pretty sure that he's got the part bc let's be real ej's audition wasn't it 😳
—— one of the reasons he spends so much time preparing for the audition is that he's not white and doesn't exactly look like troy in the movies. he feels like he has to give more to make up for that disadvantage
—— armani is a hardcore theatre kid. he dreams of one day performing on broadway, but he's also realistic about it and knows that it's going to be hard
—— at first, he despises ricky for stealing the role he was meant to play even though he's not interested in theatre. he hates injustice in general and is super pissed at him
—— he gets cast as zeke instead and one day after rehearsal he confronts ricky. they get into a huge argument and storm off, but armani finds himself seeing the situation through ricky's point of view and decides to lay it off
—— theres still some tension between them, but they slowly become closer
—— this is, and i cannot stress this enough, a slow burn!! i'd say that they only get together in later seasons
—— armani is also a raging homosexual. he was never interested in girls, but never wanted to acknowledge the fact that he's gay since he's scared of judgement
