Hold me closer

I don't really think anyone's going to care, but there's mild language in this chapter. Just a warning.

Barb's POV

I walk into the room and see Poppy struggling with the buttons on that dress. I'm not sure what comes over me, but I find myself walking over to her. I flip her around, pull her in a bit, and button that last button. Then everything goes still, and I'm just standing there, holding her dress straps, only about 6 inches away from her. My heart leaps to my throat, because I don't know what to do next. And then she does something. Because she knows what to do next.

She kisses me.

I didn't know that this was a feeling that existed. It's not a long kiss or anything. She pulls away after a few seconds, but remains the same distance to me in other areas besides my lips. Then she grabs my waist and pulls me even closer to her. She laughs.

"W-what?" I ask, still shocked.

"You're blushing so much, it's so cute," She says, looking at me with those big pink eyes. I blush even harder and try to back up a little, but she pulls me in for another kiss. For a second I panic again, but my instincts take over, and I know what to do. I put one hand on her waist and the other finds its way to her cheek. I'm still blushing, but this feels good. Like insanely good. I really would give the world for this Popsqueak. She pulls away, smiling. I'm smiling too, at this point. I take her hand and gently guide her over to the bed.

"Maybe we don't need a night out tonight," I say, as I climb onto the bed.

"Maybe not," She says, crawling onto the bed and cuddling up against me. I pull her closer. I look at the clock on the wall. It's only 6:04 PM. A bit early for this... Wait. I have a good idea.

"Actually, Poppy... I have somewhere I wanna show you,"

"Barb, are we almost at the top now?" She says, panting.

"Yeah, almost there, I promise," True to my word, we arrive at the top of the hill about 5 minutes later. It's the biggest hill around for miles, and it shows a beautiful view of Volcano Rock City.

"Wow," Poppy breathes in, "This is... breathtaking." I blush a little. I've been doing that a lot recently.

"I always told myself when I got a boyfriend or something, I'd bring him up here. But after tonight... I don't think boyfriends are really my thing," Poppy laughs.

"I guess I'll just have to do, then," I pull her in closer and look into her eyes.

"Believe me, Queen Poppy, there's no boy I'd want up here as much as I want you up here," I'd heard Branch call her Queen Poppy before, and it always made her blush. She blushes now too. But then she turns her head away.

"Branch calls me that, you know..." Yes, obviously I know. I want you to love me like you love him. I want you to love me as much as I love you.

"Oh, he does?"

"Yeah," She looks sad for a moment, "You know, I really did love him," I do a double take.

"Did? As in past tense?"

"Well obviously I still love him as a friend. But I don't know. I don't really know about anything anymore," She looks back at me. I pause for a second, then reach over and take her hand.

"I don't know anything either... You wanna be stupid together?" I ask. She laughs, then leans her head on my shoulder.

"Yeah.. let's be stupid together..." There's a few seconds of silence.

"Hey Poppy?"

"Yeah?"

"Uh... I love you."
