*************************************************"You mind if I just relax on this one?" JJ asked from beside me as he lay his head on my lap, I wasn't angry anymore I knew why he did what he did, "it's been a long day, and a lot of weird stuff's gone down. I'm just gonna lay low. Oh, did you want a hit of this?"
He held up his lit joint, to which I just shook my head watching out of the window as John B kept glancing at me through the rear view mirror.
"Pope?" He offered again to the teen sat next to me.
"No, thanks. I'd like to keep the signal clear"
"Dude, okay. Do you understand that your problem is that you don't get creative?" He argued leaning his head, lowkey crushing my thigh. Pope never smoked, he always said it would make his brain slower, or some bullshit.
"If you got creative, then maybe people wouldn't—-"
"I—- I know I was wrong about the lighthouse. And wrong about everything else going on," With that he looked at me in the mirror, was I giving hints? I mean I liked John B but I didn't mean to lead him on, if it weren't for the rules I would've tried ages ago, "But I—- I was right about one thing, okay? My dad is trying to tell me something"
*******
We pulled up to a cemetery, where Pope practically clung to my side, before Kie jumped out and did the same on the other side.
"Hey why did I get stuck baby sitting?" I groaned looking at JJ and John B who walked ahead.
"John B, what are we doing?" JJ asked as I tried to walk with my arms taken up.
"Shhh, okay so do you know when you're trying to remember a song, and can't remember who sings it?"
"Okay stop trying to rub it in, it's Weezer, I know now" I rolled my eyes,
"That's not what I'm talking about, anyway. So, Redfield. This whole time I thought it was a place, right? But it's not a place..... It's a person." He spoke as we stopped outside a tomb, with 'Redfield' engraved in the stone.
"Voi-effing-là" JJ sighed.
"See, my great-great-grandmother Olivia Redfield. That was her maiden name. Help me with the door. Come on" John B, sighed walking over to the stone slab, pushing on it. JJ and I both moved to help as Kie and Pope hung back.
"Are you pushing?"
"Yeah I'm pushing"
As if on cue a snake slithered out of the crack we made from pushing the slab.
"Woah woah woah" I called falling back, accidentally into John B, who helped me steady again.
"That's a moccasin, all right. Ye olde Dr. Cottonmouth. Death in tall grass" JJ teases before making barking noises as the snake slithered away.
"JJ, shut up. Shut up!"
"You're gonna wake the dead, man!" I sighed pulling him away from the snake.
"They're afraid of dogs. Everyone knows that, man" He spoke innocently, looking around at all of us as we rolled our eyes and moved to the slab again, "Wait wait, hold on. If there's one... there's probably dozens. All around"
