1- the letters

Dear Gilbert,
I look like my mother. I had always thought that my parents would've dumped me in the orphanage even if they were alive, for how ugly I was as a baby, but now I know that they wouldn't if I was a spitting image of them. I'm so sorry if I'm just talking about nothing. I had forgot to tell you before that after you left Marilla and Matthew had gone to the person who had first had me, had told them all about me and my parents. My parents even had a book about flowers that they had wanted to give to me that Marilla found. I was supposed to be called Bertha. Can you believe that? Bertha Shirley-Cuthbert! I have a few questions: 1, are we courting? I was quite confused at how sudden it was and how quickly you left. 2, are you sure that you'd want to court me? I'm not that pretty and I do talk a lot and I know that it gets annoying. 3, when will you be returning to Prince Edward Island? I would really like to talk to you in person about this and see you again. On another note, Diana has met someone and was quite flattered with him. His name is Fred. I'm dreadfully sorry that I have to cut this off short but I only have one piece of paper.

•Gilbert POV•

Once Gilbert got Anne's letter, he ripped it open, while being careful to not tear any of the paper. Once he got up to the part about the Blythe, he smiled. He couldn't quite make it out at first, but when he did he laughed.
" hey Gilbert is that from your girl?" Gilbert's roommate, Bernard Laurens asked.
" Oh yeah" Gilbert said sheepishly while blushing, "her name is anne and she's studying at queens." Gilbert started to talk all about anne to Bernard.
