Leo wasn't sure about this girl they'd met. Though she had kept their promise so far, according to Raph, she'd come pretty close to giving them up. And just for a chance to get a job. No, letting this girl in on their secret was a bad idea. and what were they doing now? Meeting with her again! Raph's doing of course.

Though that was one odd thing. Raph wasn't usually fond of anyone, but now he was planning secret meetings with the girl he had only a few days ago wanted to throw out on the street. Maybe if Raph trusted her, it meant that Leo could too. He couldn't be too careful though. This was his family he was talking about. It was his responsibility to protect them.

These are the things Leo was thinking as they sat upon the roof of Berea Simpkins' apartment building. It had been fifteen minutes since they'd gotten there, and still no sign of her. "I don't like this Raph."

"She'll be here. She's probably just making sure her sister's asleep."

"Or she's getting her reporter friends to shoot the next big story."

"If she was gonna sell us out, she would have done it already."

"Or she was waiting for an opportunity like this. To get real proof of us." Leo said as he neared Raph in discontent.

"Will you calm down!" Raph replied.

It was kind of ironic that it was Raph saying that to Leo. It was usually Raph that went way off the deep end, and over ridiculous stuff too. But this was something serious. There lives were at stake just by waiting on this roof. Leo began pacing. As the minutes dragged on so did his feeling of worry.

"It'll be alright Leo," said Donny, being the voice of reason as usual. "I believe that the young woman has good intentions as well."

"If you say so," Leo said, when they heard quick footsteps coming up the fire escape. "But just in case, I want everyone to stay quiet."

They all hid themselves in the shadows, and Leo watched as the girl in the tan leather jacket made her way up to the roof. She was alone, or at least seemed to be, but she was holding something in her hands too. As she looked around, he could tell that she couldn't see any of them. Good.

He neared her as she spoke. "Raphael?" she whispered. "Leo?"

He slowly pulled out one of his katanas and held it to her neck in a warning. She froze as the cool metal touched her skin. "Are you alone?" Leo asked.

"Yes. As promised."

He moved around to face her, and when she saw him she gave what he thought was supposed to be a small smile, but it was entangled with fear, an emotion he hadn't seen much in this girl so far. He looked her in the eyes, searching for any signs of deception. He could find none.

He let his weapon down, but quickly took the box from her hands. "What is this?"

"Uh, candy."

"Candy!?" Mikey said, totally blowing his cover. He came from behind Leo and snatched the box from his hands before Leo could even blink. The other two slowly came out of their hiding spots as well.

"From my sister's shop." She smiled as Mikey began to dig in to the goodies. Then she looked to Leo with wondering eyes. "It's a...peace offering."

"You didn't have to do that." Donny said.

"I know; I wanted too. After all, you guys did save my life from those purple dragons." She looked to the other three, giving kind looks, but as she spoke, her gaze kept returning to Leo, her eyes full of curiosity. "It was the least I could do."

"We accept your gratitude, but it's not really safe for us to be up here." Leo said with dark eyes.

"I know," Berea replied, frowning at his coldness. "I just...wanted to see you all again. I was hoping that, maybe, we could friends."

"You keep bringing stuff like this, and we can be more than friends!" Mikey said, as he scarfed another chocolate. That earned him a good knock to the head from Raph, which brought a small giggle out of the girl.

It was interesting to hear her laugh. It gave a new essence to Leo's environment, and he almost felt like he was comfortable with the girl, the same way he felt when at home with his brothers and father. But then he remembered what Raph said she'd done at the reporters office. "I don't think that's such a good idea." He turned to leave, and signalled for his brothers to do the same.

"Look, I know I messed up!' Berea said, stopping the three turtles who had started to leave. Raph had stayed back, his arms crossed over his chest. "Give me a break, I couldn't even be entirely sure you guys were real until today. I didn't really understand what I was dealing with before. But, now I do. I really promise this time, your secret's safe with me."

Leo looked at her pleading hazel eyes. "Please. I'm just asking for a chance."

"Oh, come on Leo," Mikey said, coming up behind Berea, both hands on her shoulders. "How can you say no to this face." Berea got a silly smile on her face, and joined Mikey in giving Leo puppy dog looks. Leo couldn't help it, a laugh escaped his throat, and Berea laughed in return. He again felt that comfort, and something squeezed his heart in his chest.

"Fine," he spat out, and each of his brothers gave a small cheer of celebration. "But I'm telling you guys, Master Splinter is not gonna like this."

"Master Splinter?" Berea said, looking to Mikey.

Raph answered from behind her. "Our father. And he would have found out about her eventually," he said to Leo. "Probably better now than later."

"Father? Remind me, how old are you guys again?"

"I'm 17," Donny said. "Mikey's 16, Raph 18 and Leo 19."

She gave Raph a smirk, causing him to blush. "Kid, huh?"

"Hey are we gonna take her to Splinter now or what?" said Mikey.

"Hold on, I need to something first." She ran back down the steps of the fire escape, and behind her Leo quietly followed. He was pretty sure he trusted her now, but better safe than sorry.

He followed her into her house, and watched as she scribbled something down on a small piece of paper, then he followed her into a dark room.

That's when he saw the girl. Not Berea, another girl, with blonde strands falling gracefully over her calm face. She lay peacefully in bed, her breathes steady in sleep. Strange feelings swam inside Leo at the sight of her. He almost felt the urge to reach over and touch her.

"Leo," Berea spoke, and he turned to her in bewilderment. He knew she must of learned his name from the sister he'd spoken with on the phone, but there was no way for her to have known for sure which of him and his brothers the name belonged to. Yet somehow, she did.

"I understand," she said with caring in her eyes. She placed a hand on his arm, and then looked to the girl in bed. "I have a family to protect too." He looked on the girl who must of been the sister he'd heard so much of, and then turned and smiled back at Berea.

Maybe she did understand. And maybe, Leo had just made a real friend.
