I ran my hand through my firetruck red hair, lifted my cigarette to my mouth and took a drag. I shut the door of my car as I got in and started it. I drove down the street from my apartment and then the next thing I knew through the tunnel leaving New Jersey. My phone in my bag went off, the caller I.D. said it was Mikey. I tossed it behind me, I didn't need to be yelled at by him right now.

I glanced to the side and saw a teenage boy walking on the side of the road, so I pulled over and rolled down the window. "Hey kid, need a ride?" I kinda shouted at him. He gave me a strange look as I leaned across the seats and opened the door facing him. I threw my bag that was in the passenger seat in the back.

"Hey, do you need a ride?" He just gave me a suspicious look.

"Why should I trust you?" He asked

"Kid, I'm probably the most trust worthy guy on this highway. So it's my car or get raped by some random gross group of guys." I said leaning a bit so I could see his face. He looked about fifteen, he had black hair and a lip piercing. Saying he looked gorgeous would be an understatement and now I can be considered a pervert.

He gave me another suspicious look and asked "How do I know that you won't rape me? But you're probably right." He shrugged and got in my car, closing the door behind him. He put his bag in the back with mine.

I looked at him then back at the road. "So kid, where are you going at this time of night?"

He fastened his seat belt and sighed. "My name's Frank, not kid. I'm going anywhere."

"Well Frank how old are you? Fifteen?" He just glared at me when I asked that.

"I'm seventeen, and what are you running from?" His question caught me off guard. He must of noticed my bag in the back.

"My past, I'm guessing that's the same for you. Where are you from?" I asked and he nodded, satisfied with my answer.

"Belleville." he said calmly, he knew what was coming next.

"Shit me too, well I guess I was going to have to go back there sooner or later. I have to take you back or I'll be arrested for kidnapping you." Frank opened his mouth to say something, but I then said. " And I can't drop you off somewhere besides your house. You'll be murdered or worse and I can't have that on my conscious."

I pulled into some rest stop and stopped the car and faced him. "Kid, sorry, Frank what's your address and why did you run away?" I asked. He just looked out the window. I know he felt my eyes on him because he shifted a little bit. His shirt sleeve rode up before he could pull it down, I saw a big ugly bruise. My eyes widened and I took a sharp breath in. I started the car and started our way back to New Jersey.

-----

He was asleep when we arrived at my apartment. I shook his shoulder to wake him, he groaned and stirred a little. I should let him sleep. I grabbed our bags and threw them over one of my shoulders. I opened his door and unbuckled his seat belt and picked him up, he was shockingly light weight.

I climbed the stairs to my apartment. He groaned a little when I had to lift my knee up and kinda support some of his weight on it, so I could get my keys and open the door. I walked in and closed the door with my foot. I put the kid on the on my bed and put the bags next to the bedroom door.

Not even twelve hours ago I left for good and now I'm back with a seventeen year old runaway in my bed. I sighed and I looked at the clock on the wall in my living room, It was five in the morning. The sun will be rising soon, so there's no reason to go to sleep. I walked over to the coffee maker and started making coffee.
