"I've never seen you looking so listless, Light."
Light examined his fingernails. "I'm just taking a little break. I wanna see what the cops do next. Plus, I'm kinda tired. Even god needs his rest."
He sighed and leaned over, grabbing a magazine. "All you hear is news relating to Kira these days, nothing else. It might be interesting if I wasn't Kira, hah."
He flipped to the headlines of the magazine before digging out a newspaper with similar headlines.
"Look. This magazine fully acknowledges Kira, yet this newspaper is claiming that 'L' and Kira were invented by the police to punish criminals without recourse to law. Some people are still denying we exist after all..."
Light tossed them off to the side.
"Turn on the tv or radio, and Kira vs L is there as well. If Kira pays too much attention to this stuff, it'll just start to stress him out."
He stared out the window, watching the clouds go by. A stray bird flew by.
"Gotta give his mind a rest once in a while."
"A rest?" questioned Ryuk. "All the police over the world are on your tail. You sure you can afford to chill, Light?"
"... Afford to?"
He got up reluctantly and walked back inside from his balcony.
"Yeah, I can. After all, when I picked up this notebook, the reason I chose to use it to purge the world of evil was that I knew I could stick it out, even if the police started a manhunt against me. I have a certain advantage, you see."
Certain advantage? wondered Ryuk.
The handle rattled sharply and Light heard grumbling from the other side.
"Honestly... why do you have to always lock your door, Light?"
Light temporarily panicked.
"Oh, hey, Sayu. What is it?"
"I need some help with my homework!"
"Oh, ok. Hang on a sec."
He placed the Death Note in a drawer and slid it shut, before walking to the door and unlocking it. He saw Sayu standing there, holding a math textbook, but he also saw you standing behind her.
"Ah, (y/n). What're you doing here?"
You smiled gently at him and waved. "Your mom invited me over for dinner."
"Oh, I see. Your dad's working late tonight again?"
"Mm-hm."
"Anyway, what do you need help with, Sayu?"
She held out the textbook in front of her.
"Ta-da! Quadratic functions! "
"Uh-huh..."
Both of you walked into his room. Sayu took a seat at his desk while you flopped onto his bed, book in hand.
"Why couldn't you have helped Sayu with her homework, (y/n)?" grumbled Light. You shot a coy smirk at him.
"Well, we both wanted to annoy you. I also wanted to see if you'd make any mistakes."
He countered your smirk with one of his own.
"I'll gladly take you up on that challenge of yours."
He took a seat at his desk and opened up Sayu's textbook.
"Watch out, Light," cautioned Ryuk. Light shot a glance at him out the corner of his eye.
"If your sister or (y/n) touches the Death Note in your drawer, then they'll be able to see me as well."
