I jumped up, slipping on my shoes and grabbing my mini backpack I bounced to the backdoor.
I stuck my head out the door, "Dad!" I yelled, trying to make my voice heard over the loud machine.
He stopped the lawnmower, wiping the sweat off his forehead. It was a hot day today in Los Angeles I don't know why he waited until the sun was all the way out to cut the grass.
"I'm leaving now I'll be back later."
"Okay, make sure you call me if you need me or if something happens. I love you."
"Okay I love you too." I blew him a kiss and shut the back door and walked to the front of the house.
I took a deep breath and swiftly glanced out the living room window. There was a black Dodge Charger parked out front and although the the windows were tinted dark so I couldn't see inside I knew it was Kalin. Even though this was just for a school project and nothing more I suddenly felt increasingly nervous about being around him today. I've never hung out with a boy alone and it doesn't help that Kalin is seriously attractive.
I snapped myself out of my thoughts I didn't want to keep him waiting and I really didn't want my dad to come out here and embarrass me. I stepped out the front door making sure to lock it before walking to Kalin's car. Upon getting inside the car I immediately felt the cool breeze of the air conditioning against my face along with smell of a vanilla car freshener.
"How are you today?" He asked giving me a smile.
I took in his appearance black joggers with a fitted white t-shirt his seat was leaned way too far back and even though some of the curls on his head were out of place he still looked really good.
"I'm good." I said shyly, "How are you?"
"I'm great." He ran his fingers through his curly hair before driving off "Play some music."
"You want me to play music?" I verified.
"Yeah." He handed me the iPhone charger that was plugged into his car "Just plug your phone up."
I shook my head "It's okay. You can just play your music." I don't know who he listens to and we probably don't even like the same type of music and this is his car so it would be weird if I played something he doesn't like.
"Who do you like to listen to?"
"Uh, anybody you can just play anything." I didn't care what he played but I would much rather listen to music than have a conversation with him. Talking to him made me feel anxious.
Once we stopped at red light he scrolled through his phone, playing some rap song that I never heard. I relaxed in my seat a little and looked out the window. I still had no idea where we were going. Halfway through the song he turned the volume all the way down.
"Are those your hiking shoes?" He gestured to my shoes.
I looked down at my black and white Nike Roshes, "Well I don't usually go hiking but these are good for exercising." I furrowed my eyebrows when I looked over to see what type of shoes he was wearing "Really? You're asking about my shoes when you're wearing white Air Force Ones." I made sure to emphasize on the 'white'.
"Damn." He burst out laugher, "Is Kennedy Davis giving me little attitude? I see you aren't as shy and quiet as I thought and anyways these are my old Forces so I don't care about getting them dirty."
I blinked twice at the mention of my full name, "How do you know my full name?" I was genuinely curious.
He shrugged, using only one hand to drive he looked so relaxed "School. Since freshman year we've always had at least one class together. Sophomore year I think we had like four classes together."
