"So, aliens?" Lorelai deadpanned, leaning forward between the two front seats of their black, standard issue S.H.I.E.L.D car.

Fury shook his head, turning to look at her with irritation. "No, not aliens. Superheroes."

Raising an eyebrow, Rory turned to their newest agent, Phil Coulson. He smiled politely and nodded. "It does sound like you're talking about aliens, sir."

Fury's eye-roll made the two agents grin before Lorelai responded in a more serious manner.

"The Protector Initiative, huh? It sounds..." she trailed off, struggling to find the appropriate word.

"Unbelievable?" He suggested, causing her to cringe slightly, knowing he'd caught onto her train of thought.

"People thought the same about Captain America-"

"I'mma stop you right there, Phil." Lorelai put her hand up, grinning as the newbie blushed hard.

"All I'm saying Nick," he gave her his most intimidating look at the use of his first name. " All I'm saying is that Captain America was a long shot, an experiment. We have no viable proof of any other 'gifted' beings."

She flopped back into her seat. "You've got more chance of aliens dropping out of the sky."

Fury's ringing phone cut off any upcoming conversation. The other two agents watched carefully as their senior agent flipped open his phone.

"A what?! Yes, sir." He flipped the phone closed and started the engine.

"What's going on?" Lorelai asked, strapping her seatbelt on.

"A woman crashed into a blockbuster." Was all he said, causing her to stare at him, bewildered.

"So why is that a S.H.I.E.L.D investigation?"

"Because she crashed from the sky."

There was a pause as all three agents considered what Fury had just said.

"So, aliens?"

The sun had fully broken the skyline when Fury pulled into a shopping complex, surrounded by familiar S.H.I.E.L.D issue cars.

The Blockbuster ahead of them was smouldering from the middle of the roof. Lorelai stepped out with her partners, surveying the damage.

Fury disappeared instantly. "I'm going to take a look inside, help collect evidence." Coulson told her, walking away towards the broken glass window."

The security guard rolled down his car window as she approached.

"Did you call this in?" She asked, leaning down to peer at him through her sunglasses. He nodded earnestly. He pointed ahead of him, towards a phone booth where a lone woman stood.

"Thanks," Rory said distractedly. "Remain here until another agent tells you that you're free to go." She nodded once at him and turned to walk over, bumping into Coulson who stood directly next to her.

"Jesus Coulson, I thought you were collecting evidence." She chastised, irritated that she'd been snuck up on by the rookie.

"I'm done. It was quick." He said shortly. Lorelai's brow furrowed, wondering where her joyful new partner was, her eyes switched from him to some of the other agents, assuming his attitude was from their teasing.

They walked quickly towards the woman as Fury approached her from the side, knocking against the payphone window.

"Witness says she was dressed for laser tag." Fury said as Lorelia came within earshot.
