"Ah, you bitch!" Ashton yelled as he sprinted towards me.

I began running faster, but the sand particles of the beach kept slipping into my sandles, slowing me down.

I turned around to see he was catching up. I laughed. " Ha, you love me though."

"I do not." He panted coming alongside me. He grabbed me in a choke hold and jumbled up my short dark brown hair.

"Don't you ever do that again, you big meany."

"Aw you messed up my hair jerk. It took me forever to fix it."

"That'll teach you not to give me a wedgie."

"I didn't even pull that hard, you were just embarrassed because Zoie was there." I teased.

"Shut up Cristine."

"Don't pretend you aren't happy I'm turning 18 today."

"I'm not, now you're gonna bug me all day everyday."

He was right. Once you turn 18 you no longer have to attend fire bending training. I was free to spend the rest of my time in Youth City to do whatever I wanted. And there was nothing I loved to do more than annoy the shit out of Ashton.

"Don't act as if you won't enjoy my company. I know you love my company."

He laughed, "No I don't, I hate you."

I laughed again. Of course he didn't hate me. Ashton and I had been best friends forever. He moved to the house right across from me when I was 14 and he was 16. Since then, we'd become best friends, inseparable. We even went to the same fire bending training school. He did graduate earlier than me, but we remained friends.

"Don't be such a grump Ash, Zoie isn't even that cool. I don't know what you see in her honestly."

"Hey shut up. I don't give you a hard time about you liking Calum."

Calum was the love of my life. He was a water bender and lived in a the water bending borough. But it's really close to the fire bending borough. His house is literally in walking distance from my house. We met two years ago at the annual Youth City convention where teenagers all over the city come to show off their bending skill whether it's air, water, fire or earth. He was volunteering there and he looked oh so good. We became friends, and still are even though I want to be more than that, he doesn't seem to notice.

"Because Calum is awesome and you know it."

"Not as awesome as me."

"Dude he's way awesomer than you. Don't pretend you don't know that."

"Yeah whatever. Come on we have to walk faster. Your parents will be home an minute."

I was honestly really excited Mt parents were coming over. They weren't able to visit me in Youth City from Middle Aged - ville as much as they'd like to. They were only allowed a visit date thirty times a year (excluding deadly emergencies and stuff.) Since it was my birthday of coarse they had to come over.

We walked faster until we reached our street. The streets were pristine, lined with tall white houses. I went to the third house on the block, Ashton right behind me.

"Siri open." I spoke loudly and clearly so the house would understand me.

The door slowly slid open to reveal the black and white metal walls leading into the kitchen.

"Hello Cristine how are you?"

"Shut up Siri." I replied as I put my boundary ring on the kitchen counter.
