I couldn't stop thinking about George. I sat by my phone anxiously waiting for a message, not being able to watch Youtube or reply to any of my friends back home. It had only been a few hours since he dropped me off, he was obviously just busy.

I decided to call my friend, Abigail, to help pass the time and update her on what happened, I wasn't coping well being so far away from her. Back home we spent nearly every day together.

The phone rang 3 times before she picked up.

"OMG you're alive!" Abigail shrieked. I rolled my eyes, I was pretty bad at replying to messages so this was something I heard quite often. The time zone differences didn't help either, I was 5 hours behind and usually replied when Abigail was sleeping.

"I had a crazy night, sorry" I replied. Abigail wasn't the sort of person to hold a grudge over something so small, she was also easily distracted.

"TELL ME EVERYTHING!" she shouted shaking her camera violently.

"I went to a club-" I began

"You went alone? You could have been kidnapped! I though you were smarter than this Anysia!"

"Funny you say that actually-"

"WHAT NO WAY YOU GOT KIDNAPPED, WHAT THE FUCK!"

"Abigail stop interrupting me and just listen!" I wasn't angry at her but it was a little frustrating. "The bartender offered me a free drink, yes I know I shouldn't have taken it don't lecture me. The drink was spiked with something and I started hallucinating and stuff but then this guy appeared and said he wanted to help me. I woke up in his house and he took care of me and I may or may not have a little teeny weeny crush on him"

Abigail didn't speak for a while, which was out of character for her.

"Are you sure the guy who 'helped' you isn't the one who spiked your drink?" she asked staring at the screen, scrunching her eyebrows together.

"That's what I thought but he said it wasn't" I realised how stupid that sounded after I said it.

"So if I say I didn't kill someone while standing next to a dead body, are the police gonna let me go?"

Abigail was making a lot of sense but she didn't hear how George explained it. Of course my friend was going to be sceptical and ask questions about a guy I liked, she just wanted to protect me. Then again, George was really sweet.

A notification from an unknown number appeared at the top of my screen, I quickly pressed it.

I felt butterflies in my stomach, how was I going to reply?

"Hello? Earth to Anysia" Abigail said noticing I wasn't listening to her.

"Sorry Abigail I have to go, I'll ring you later okay?" I didn't really feel like having her lecture me about George right before a date. Was it a date? He didn't actually call it that. Gosh why do I always overthink everything.

"Alright miss suspicious, don't go clubbing on your own again please" Abigail said waving at the camera before hanging up.

5 hours later
I'd never been on a date or gone somewhere with a guy I liked before so to say I was nervous was an understatement. I kept looking at the dress I was wearing in the mirror and cringing at the way I looked. My auburn hair lay loosely on my shoulders, maybe I needed to brush it again? Do my legs look too pale? It was now 6:55PMand I told myself that I could look in the mirror one more time. I smoothed out the bottom of the dress with my palms making sure it wasn't too short. I grabbed a cardigan from my wardrobe; I think they matched pretty well. I didn't usually wear makeup but I decided to put some lipstick on and some eyeliner just so I felt more confident in myself.

A loud car horn sounded from outside, it was George. I grabbed my bag from my bed, slipped my shoes on and ran down the stairs to the bottom floor. I was only on the 3rd floor in my apartment complex so I wasn't too out of breath when I reached George's car. He jumped out the car and ran around to the passenger side, opening the door and gesturing for me to get inside.

"M'lady" he smirked. I couldn't help but laugh. I tried to force myself to relax as George ran round the car and got inside.

He looked over at me "you look amazing" he smiled before setting off. "Thank you" I blushed. Was I meant to say the same to him? He did look handsome. He had a collared shirt and jeans on like he was trying to impress me but knew not to be too formal. By the time I built the confidence to compliment him the moment had passed.

"Where are we going?" I finally asked.

George looked over "it's a suprise".

We were in the car for about 15 minutes until we pulled into a gravel car park. I looked past it and saw a river, it was beautiful.

"And we're here" George said stopping the car and looking over at me.
"It's beautiful" I smiled.
"I hope it isn't too boring for you" George laughed getting out the car and running round the other side.
"Why would I be bored?"
"I don't know" George opened the trunk of the car and took out a blanket and a large plastic container. "I came prepared"

It didn't take us long to find a spot to place the blanket down. There were no other people in sight, just the ducks swimming peacefully a few metres away.

"I should have probably asked what you like but I hope falafel is okay" George looked down anxiously waiting for my response.
"I'm a vegetarian, I'm just glad you didn't bring chicken sandwiches or something" I laughed taking a falafel from the box.
"That's such a relief, I'm vegan. I'm glad you don't eat meat, we'll have to work on the dairy aspect but I don't want to bore you with all the sad details" George said moving a little closer to me.
"Trust me, I know the sad details"
It was obvious this conversation was getting awkward so George put the box down and waited a few seconds before tapping me and screaming "TAG YOU'RE IT!" He scrambled to get off the blanket and ran away.
I didn't have time to debate whether I wanted to engage in such a childish activity, I was already on my feet and running after him.
"Hey! Slow down!" I shouted frantically trying to catch up. I'd looked away for a second and then I'd lost him. He just vanished. He must be hiding somewhere.
"Oi! No fair!" I shouted looking around.
I carried on running but eventually came to a stop to catch my breath.
"BOO!"
I screamed falling backwards. George was quick to react and caught me before I hit the floor. He tried holding his laugh in but it wasn't long before it escaped. "I'm sorry, Frick I didn't know you'd get so scared" George said through laughs. I couldn't stay angry and soon me and George were both laughing. George helped me back on my feet but didn't take his hands off my back.

"Are you alright, seriously?" he said softly stroking my back.
"I'm fine, for now. Although you might have taken a few years off my life" George smiled.
"I really like you Anysia. You're different than any girl I've met before" His eyes didn't leave mine, I was getting quite embarrassed, my stomach filling with butterflies.
"I like you too George"
I felt George move closer to me, his warm breath nearing my lips until they touched. It was only a short kiss but I felt elated, like I was filled with a kind of confidence I'd never felt before. The kiss was better than I could have expected. I wanted to wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him again but I didn't want to seem too eager on our first date.
George scratched his head while backing away, we both didn't say anything for a few seconds but it was obvious both of us enjoyed what had happened.
"I liked that" George finally said.
"Me too" I replied reaching for his hand, we walked back to the blanket, ate the rest of the falafels and watched the sky darken. I didn't want to leave. The night time air was so peaceful and George's company only made it better.
