// one ; someplace new //
Now, it didn't really occur to the Doctor nor Rose that it might be Christmas on the day they returned to Earth, just to pop in and say hello to Jackie and Mickey - or Rickey, depending on who you ask. The duo only realized what day it was when they stepped out of the TARDIS to be met by the London streets laden in tinsel and flashy lights.
Rose herself loved Christmas, but the Doctor knew that Christmas always brought disaster. (It was quite strange; every single Christmas. The Doctor thought it was like something that would happen on the telly.)
"To Mum's or Mickey's first?" Rose looked down the road, both ways, before looking back at the Doctor. Her Doctor.
"I'd like to spend as much time away from Rickey as possible..." Nine replied, straightening his leather coat.
"Shut up!" Rose teased, "You like him."
"If it makes you happy." the Doctor rolled his eyes melodramatically, making sure Rose saw.
"Whatever," Rose tried to hide her smile. "to my mum's first, then."
She hooked arms with the Doctor and walked down the street to Jackie's house. The pair only walked a few steps before Rose stopped and mused, "It's Christmas!"
"I thought that was already clarified..." the Doctor raised an eyebrow at his companion, wondering if he'd caused her to lose her marbles.
"I know, but... I don't have anything - no presents to give my mum!" Rose frowned.
"Well, that's not a problem. Let's go to the shops, ay?" the Doctor suggested with a shrug, though Rose was already tugging him along towards downtown.
It was snowing, of course, but it was pretty snow - flurries that landed on Rose's pink cheeks and melted moments later due to her radiating heat. The Doctor couldn't help but admire the way Rose's face reflected the holiday lights; her smile being perhaps the brightest thing in his eyes.
The Doctor was so absorbed in staring at his companion that he didn't realize what she did - the people on the streets were all wearing togas.
"What's this," Rose nodded to the oddly dressed people. "a city-wide costume party?"
"Quite a lame party," the Doctor replied, "if they're all wearing the same costume."
He furrowed his eyebrows at the fiasco before him, "This can't be possible..." he mumbled to himself, but not without Rose hearing.
"What can't be possible? That some people in town were wearing costumes?" Rose quipped, chuckling before she realized the Doctor hadn't been listening to her.
"There's this mirror planet of Earth, well, one of many mirror planets - and mirror planets aren't quite parallel universes; it's quite confusing really, but..." the Doctor noticed his rambling, "Basically, the TARDIS caused the time vortex to swing us into another dimension where the technology is all practically the same -"
"Except everyone wears togas?"
"Well, yes," the Doctor paused, "But that's strange, because these people are Greek, and the Romans wore togas."
"And you know that, how?" Rose tilted her head to the side in curiousity. Really, she was thinking that the Doctor was crazy to think it weird that Greeks were wearing togas, and not that they had modern technology.
"A good guess," the Doctor shrugged, and Rose nodded, knowing that if the Doctor was to explain, she probably wouldn't understand. "And, since they're Greek, they also still believe in Ancient Greek mythology." the Doctor explained, realizing that people were starting to stare at the two. "Also, it's not Christmas... it's about time that Persephone returns from the Underworld."
