(Valerie's POV)
--
Candi and I had been driving for hours. It had been about a 2 hour drive from our small town of Dragoon to the University of Phoenix because of mild traffic, but with Candi in the car, it felt more like we had only been driving for 20 minutes.
We had been on the highway forever, but we were both looking out the window when the scenery started to change.
We saw tiny buildings, which gradually grew larger and larger as we cruised along the highway. The buildings made me so excited, I rarely got to see the big city side of Arizona!
Candi, on the other hand, drove up here all the time. Her parents were divorced and her dad and stepmom lived in Phoenix.
Switching houses got very tiring, she told me, and she just wished she could move the Hell out into a place of her own.
Now, it was basically going to happen to us. For real. I could only hope that my roommate would be someone that I would be able to tolerate living with.
After another 10 minutes of Candi and my tone-deaf self singing along to the radio, I was very excited to hear the DJ's voice:
"Up next, Amnesia by 5 Seconds of Summer!"
Candi was bracing herself in the driver's seat. She knew how much I loved 5SOS, and she was prepared for me to sing at the top of my lungs on this song.
I do, in fact, love 5SOS. Sometimes, as others would say, a bit too much. If anyone says a word that reminds me of 5SOS lyrics or anything related to them, bam. I go on and on about them.
If Danny and I went a few hours without arguing, my mom used to tell us to "Don't stop doing what you're doing!" Now, she's terrified to utter those words in front of me.
I fancy one band member in particular: Michael Clifford.
With his beautiful pale green eyes, his constantly color-changing hair, his fun-loving personality, his God-like voice, I could go on, how could I not be a Michael girl?
In a blink of an eye, we were there. We were at ASU. Candi and I practically tore off the handles of the car doors in a frantic rush to get out.
I was thinking two thoughts as we walked towards the nearest entrance to where Candi had parked:
First of all, the campus was absolutely humongous. it seemed to stretch along for miles. I bet the inside would make it seem even larger.
Second of all, there were many students already wandering around and talking to their friends. It was overwhelming how diverse the students at ASU were.
You could make out just by looking at them the shy ones, the douchey guys, the stereotypical white girls, the nerds, the emos, the hipsters, and every other group that you would expect to find at a University.
Candi and I finally walked inside through the tall, oaken doors that guarded the entrance to one of the buildings. We had absolutely no idea which building we were in, much less what part of the building, but boy, my prediction was correct about the interior of the building being even more amazing than the exterior.
The first thing that I noticed were the trophy cases lining the limestone walls of the long, winding hallway. There were dozens of trophies and medals for everything from football (duh), to dance, to chess.
The sunlight shone through openings on the roof that were towering dozens of feet above the marble tile, and hit the trophies so that they shimmered in the most beautiful way.
All of a sudden, I realized that it was completely silent apart from Candi's oohs and ahhs. We seemed to be the only students in the entire corridor. We were lost.
