CHAPTER NINE

"Do you have to go?" Mia asks as she looked around her room and back at Jess. Her parents were gone for the weekend and Dean had become more okay with the relationship between the two of them because if Jess was with Mia, he wasn't a competition for Rory's affections.

"I wish I could stay, Mia. But I have to go look for apartments with Luke." Jess said as he stands up slowly, stretching his arms out. He had been at her house for a few hours since he told Luke he was going to get breakfast with Mia. Which he did just at her house but nobody would believe they were at her house doing nothing.

"You're moving?" Mia raises an eyebrow.

"I guess so. Luke flipped out last night and next thing I know, he yells that I better be back by 1 so we can bang pipes and measure square footage. He's insane." Jess said as he leaned down to kiss her head. "I also have to go to The Gilmore's to help them out."

Jess noticed Mia look down at the ground. "We still on for tomorrow?"

Jess puts his hand on her cheek to bring her face up to look at him as he responded. "Yeah, of course. Hey, I told you there's nothing to worry about. I swear."

Mia smiled and nodded as she watched him leave the room. She fell back into the bed, her hair scattered all over the pillow.

It was a slow day and she just hung out with Lindsay and worked on homework. Jess and Mia got to have breakfast the next morning and he said he'd probably be busy for a few days as he had to help Luke extend the apartment.

When it hit nighttime on that Thursday afternoon, she went to visit her brother at work before she went back home from Lindsey's.

"Hey bubs." She said, putting her drink on the scanner.

"Mia, I need a favor." Dean said sternly and Mia grabbed her drink off the counter and gave him a confused glance.

"Okay?" Mia raises an eyebrow as Dean pulls her to the side.

"Lorelai's out of town tonight and Rory is all by herself at home. I'm worried about her but I have to work all night. Do you think you can just go by and check on her?" Dean asks and Mia looks around before nodding.

"Yeah, sure. I'll be back with the report for you." Mia gives a fake smile with a thumbs up earning an eye roll from her brother.

"Thank you, Mia." Dean says as Mia exits the store and starts walking towards The Gilmore House thinking of what she is going to say to make this situation not weird.
