"Look, it'll be alright" Dad begins as i lay by him in our backyard grass, looking at the stars.
star-watching is kind of our thing.
I nod.
A single tear moves down my cheek and I get a strong urge to break down and cry, but push it back and silently thank it for being dark already.
"We moved here for a new start." He says slowly.
"Ellie would like it here" I admit
"Yeah...." Dad says, "she would".
"Dad?" I ask. "Yeah?" He says back.
"Tell me more about mom." I say, smiling. Cancer took my mother's life when I was just three.
"Well" he begins "she was beautiful, just like Ellie." I nod. "She was always so confident and brave. That's what I liked best about her." He adds. "What was she like in High School?" I ask him.
"She was pretty popular, and her beauty always attracted all the guys." He smiles and a memory of the last four years of my high school experience pops into my mind. I had one friend, Josh, who I've known since fourth grade. Other than that, I was pretty much a loser.
I silently pray that the first day of school, which is tomorrow, won't be a torture like it has been the past years at Manson High. After all, senior year is suppose to be your best year.
