*imagine a year in the life is set when Rory is 24 not 32*

"Mom..."
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant".

Lorelai turns her head towards her daughter in shock. She looks deep into her eyes and she can tell that her daughter is terrified. She'd moved back home recently and not had a stable job in a while, she'd been sleeping with someone else's fiancé and had a one night stand with a Wookiee. Sure Lorelai was disappointed about the surroundings of creation of her unborn grandchild but she could never be angry at her daughter for a simple mistake.

"You're pregnant?"
"Yeah."
"What are you going to do?"
"Well all I know is that I want to keep him or her and that I need to get a job and a place to live".
"Well kiddo, you can stay for however long you need at home".
"I know but it's not the best when there's going to be a screaming baby in the house".
"I know but we'd do anything for you and the bubba".
"I know thanks Mom".
"Whatever you need kid, Luke and I will be there right next to you".
"Shouldn't you be getting ready for your 2nd wedding?"
"Yeah come on kiddo let's go".

Lorelai and Rory walk back to their home together. Much later once Lorelai and Luke have had their ceremony in front of the entire town plus Emily, Rory, April and Jess and everything is done Rory is back in her childhood bedroom thinking about her baby and their future. She dials Logan's number and and waits while it rings.

"Ace? Are you okay?" She finally hears on the other end of the phone and she suddenly remembers what time it is in London.
"Crap sorry Logan I didn't realise the time when I dialled."
"It's alright Ace, you must've called for a reason."
"Well yeah but..."
"No buts."
"Isn't Odette there?"
"Um no about that, I split up with her."
"Oh, ok."
"Ace?"
"Oh yeah um Logan listen we need to talk. I need to see you. Are you able to come to Hartford?"
"Sure I can come in 3 days. I just need to finalise some stuff here then I can fly straight there."
"Thank you."
"No problem Ace, anything for you."
Rory blushes slightly and ends the call and collapses back onto her bed. She thinks about what her future may be like - when she left college she had so many plans for herself yet not many of them panned out and here she was ten years later living back with Mom. She gradually falls asleep with her phone in her hand.

In the kitchen of the crap shack Lorelai and Luke are sitting at the kitchen table.

"She's pregnant?"
"Yeah it's fairly early on."
"And it's Logan's baby?"
"Yep, i mean sure it's crazy but that baby is a blessing. The circumstances around Rory's whole life at the moment are crazy but I can't fault her for wanting to keep the baby."
"No. No of course not."
"She wants to find her own place but I said she can stay as long as she wants to."
"I agree, this is her home and she can stay as long as she wants."
"Thank you," Lorelai says and leans over and kisses Luke.
"No problem crazy lady. Now shall we go watch some crappy reality tv?"
"You'd do that for me?"
"I'd do anything for you," he says and takes her hand. They settle in front of the telly together and Lorelai turns on some random reality tv while Luke admires his wife for her strength and courage.

It's around half past 10 at night when a knocking on the door wakes Lorelai and Luke. They look around and realise they fell asleep on the couch. Luke gets up and goes to open the door.

"April?" He asks when he sees his daughter. He then looks at her face and realised that she has been crying a lot. Crap what happened.
"April what's wrong? Come in," he says and takes her bags. She sits in the arm chair and sighs.
"It's Mom. She's got a boyfriend and she's become worse than she was before. She's downright horrible even to me. She doesn't talk to any of her friends, she doesn't open the shop until lunch time. She...she drinks. Heavily. I think she does drugs too. It's been like it for years, it's just got worse with Kane. It's worse Every single day and people are noticing. I confronted her tonight after working all day every day at the shop for the past 18 and a half months minus today because of your wedding. I got back from the wedding reception and found her drunker than ever before and we got into a huge argument and I left. Would it be alright if I stayed for a while?"
"Oh April, I had no idea. Of course it's alright. I'll go set up the guest room for you now," Lorelai says and goes upstairs to sort the guest bedroom. Luke gets his daughter a bottle of water and she takes a few sips before trying to smooth down her hair.
"Thank you Dad."
"April, it's no problem. I'd do anything for you. You are my daughter and if your mother isn't taking care of you the. I will."
April walks over to her Dad and hugs him. "I love you dad, I'm gonna go see if Lorelai is done with the room so I can get some sleep."
"Night kiddo," he says and rubs her back. He watches her disappear up the stairs and sighs. Tomorrow he would call his lawyer about Anna and April. He had to get her out of that place. Lorelai walks downstairs ten minutes later and sits next to Luke.
"Did she say anything else?"
"No but I've got to call my lawyer tomorrow. This has been going on for far too long. I've got to get full custody of her. Anna isn't doing her job."
"I know, I'll support you no matter what."
"I love you Lorelai Danes."
"Gilmore-Danes and I love you too," she says and kisses her husband passionately to which he responds.

*you all know where this goes*

Lorelai collapses onto Luke and finds herself giggling.
"Wow," Lorelai sighs and sits up. Luke smooths her hair down and sees that Lorelai's eyes are almost shut.
"Come on crazy lady, gets go to bed before we wake our kids," he says and carries her up to bed and grabs their clothes on the way. Hopefully they could get into the bedroom before April or Rory saw them. Lorelai dresses into her pyjamas while Luke puts on his then they collapse into bed together and fall asleep instantly.
