The morning assembly at Milton High was halted when several policemen came to the scene. Mr Griffin who was addressing the students stopped as the head policeman walked to the center while the other officers remained at the back.
At first there were some murmurings, but after a while, it stopped. The hall was dead silence. The policeman started, "I'm here to thank and offer my apologies to six black boys who helped me yesterday", he removed his cap and bowed his head a little as he said that. Tears ran through his eyes.
"If it weren't for them helping me yesterday night, I would have lost both my wife and my new baby son", he said and wiped his face. "I treated them unjustly because I didn't like them and thought of them as unworthy but now, I've seen otherwise. Why do we still continue to lie to ourselves that all blacks are bad when we know deep down that there are some good ones too? We police have caught white robbers also but kept it secret because we wanted to give the impression that whites can't do bad, color is not a determiner of the heart. Remember the time when the orphanage was being built and we were short of workers, the black inmates and some black citizens volunteered to help, in the end, it was white kids that were in the orphanage as black stray kids were not allowed, that is injustice", he said. Some white students nodded and clapped as the blacks started clapping too.
"I on my own, will make sure that I end racism in any way I can, because I cannot decieve myself any longer, and I urge you white kids too to be the change, let your generation be the changing point for the previous wickedness of this our town", the head police said and the others nodded. They then went away. Caleb smiled and thanked God.
Later after school, Caleb went to Bethany's class and told her what had happened.
"I know, Caleb, check out the news", she said and showed him her phone. The head policeman had managed to arrest the rapists. He had also gone to the mayor to report the issue of racism in their town. The mayor always travelled and was not in their town everytime. When he heard about the increasing rate of racism, he was upset. He fired his assistant, who had been setting laws while he was away and then issued laws that anyone caught exhibiting racist behaviors would be punished.
He also lifted the law of blacks not able to stay in the same bus with a white person. He then declared that day a national holiday to honor the blacks for all they had done to help them. Caleb smiled. "We did it Bethany", he said and hugged her. She smiled. She was happy that Caleb's dream was finally coming true.
Twelve years later, Caleb and Bethany married. Caleb also ran for mayor and was the first black mayor of that town. The town of Hollando would forever remember the boy who fought for the rights of his race.

This book is a fictional book, so none of these stuffs are real, name of people and the name of the town are all made up(well except Nelson Mandela of course).
Let's kick against racism 🏴.
