Aubrey sat in the vacant McDonalds booth at the very back of the restaurant, staring off into space. Her mind was clouded with a million thoughts and she couldn't even seem to form a cohesive sentence. She was just empty.
"Aubrey." A warm hand landed on top of hers, but she still didn't bother moving a muscle. "Aubrey, talk to me. What are you thinking about?"
She yawned, running her free hand over the back of her neck. A few free hairs tickled her fingers as she rubbed her goose bump ridden skin. To be completely truthful, she didn't really know what she was thinking exactly. There was just so much going on that she couldn't manage to wrap her head around.
"Aubrey? You wanna go home?"
She shook her head, finally lowering her gaze to to meet his blue eyes, fluorescent underneath the horrible fast-food lights.
Niall cracked a small grin at her. "Aren't you just a night owl."
The duo had snuck out together yet again, this time finding their escape at the local 24-hour McDonalds. At first they thought it was a bit weird to hang out at a fast food restaurant at one in the morning, but the double-sized order of fries soon convinced them to stay.
Aubrey blinked a few times before taking in a deep breath. "You gonna tell me what you're thinking about?" Niall pestered, shoving a few fries in his mouth.
She shrugged. "A lot of things."
"Like..?" When Aubrey stayed silent, Niall immediately knew what was going on in her beautiful mind. "Is it Eleanor?"
Aubrey laughed unhumorously before biting lightly on her lip. "I just...Yeah." She looked around before resting her head on her hand with her elbow resting on the table. "Paige keeps telling me to stop judging her, but I just can't help it, you know? No matter how I look at it, I just see her as the girl who took Louis away from me."
Niall stared at Aubrey for a few moments before giving her an empathetic smile. "So that's what this is about...I can't say that I understand, because I can't but I do see where you're coming from. Eleanor's a nice girl, Aubrey."
Aubrey opted not to say something sarcastic.
"I know you might feel like she stole him from you but I can assure you she didn't. She's cool. She's got the best sense of humor, she's bloody gorgeous, she's great, and-"
"Well, shit, why don't you just date her then?" Aubrey grumbled, folding her arms over her chest angrily.
Niall looked at her with an amused expression and a cocked eyebrow, a smirk tugging on his lips. "Aubrey...are you jealous?"
She scoffed. "God no, I just don't see all the fuss about this girl, is all."
"You're jealous."
"No, I'm really not! I just honestly don't understand why everyone's just so in love with this girl when she hasn't done a damn thing to-"
Aubrey kept mumbling on and on, so much so that she didn't notice Niall get up and slide into her side of the booth. She didn't even realize he moved beside her until their thighs pressed against each other's.
"Eleanor's great," he whispered, placing an innocent hand on Aubrey's knee. "But if I had the choice, I'd choose you."
Niall couldn't help but smile at her reddening cheeks. She looked over at him face-to-face, their eyes mere inches away from each other. "You're pathetic," she whispered, glancing down at his lips.
When I say that Niall wanted to kiss her, I mean that Niall really wanted to kiss her. He wanted her warmth and her taste to belong to him and no one else. But he didn't know if she wanted him, and knowing Aubrey Tomlinson, the answer was probably no. It was a miracle she agreed to hang out in the first place, there was no way she truly cared about him.
But did she want to kiss him? She didn't know. That's probably why when he leant in to attempt, she freaked out and pulled herself away from him.
"Uh, sorry," he said quickly after, pushing himself further away from her.
"Maybe we should go home."
"Good idea."

"He tried to kiss you?! Aubrey, it's official, I hate you."
Aubrey rolled her eyes and shifted her body on her friends pool-chair. It was now two thirty in the morning, and Aubrey couldn't stand making awkward eye contact with Niall anymore. Ever since he leant in and his lips were inches away from hers, it's all that's been occupying the poor girls' head.
"I need you to meet him."
"What?" Paige looked up at her friend in shock. "Why me?"
"Because you've got big boobs and a sparkling personality, it would take the attention off of me."
Paige laughed so hard, she almost dropped her cigarette. "Okay, that's ridiculous! Why don't you want the sexiest boyband in the world's attention? You're so lucky! And hey, your boobs are nice, too."
Aubrey groaned and then coughed due to inhaling Paige's smoke. "It's not that I...I don't know what I want. He's nice, I guess and isn't really bad looking, I just..."
"Are you worried about Louis disapproving?"
"God no, Louis never approved in the first place, I don't give a shit about his opinion."
"Then what's holding you back? He likes you, you like him. Come on, this isn't fifth grade. Puberty has kicked in, hormones are raging, just go for it."
Paige's phone buzzed violently and Aubrey watched as she checked it. The blonde smirked a bit, then looked up at Aubrey again.
"Wanna go party?"
Aubrey thought it over for a while; she was never really a party type. This was probably a bad idea, Paige's friends weren't exactly the best students in school or great citizens or anything. But then Aubrey considered her options.
She could either...
A) Go home, have things be awkward with Niall, be belittled by Louis and have him talk nonstop about his stupid girlfriend or
B) Have fun for the first time in forever, get drunk, forget everything for a while, maybe have a smoke or two, and live life as a senior a little.
She went with option B.
