I looked at the girl in surprise. Someone's been expecting us? I thought in surprise. "You two look hungry, here." She passed us the rabbit. Hailey's eyes darted to the food in front of us, and I could tell it was taking a lot of self control to not eat it. "Oh, go ahead, it's not going to kill you. Although..." She paused for a moment, holding her hand over the rabbit, and a second later the rabbit was grilled to perfection.
"There."
"Are you sure we can just eat your food?" Hailey asked, tipping her head to the side. "I can always catch one of the pigeons in town if I have to." The girl replied. Eagerly, Hailey knelt down and began digging into the rabbit. It kind of reminded me of a wolf.
"Grey, c'mon! It's really good." Sighing, I knelt down beside her and began eating too, although a lot less like a wild beast. After we finished, the girl told us her name was Amber, and that she, her mentor whom she called "mistress," and a few others had been waiting for us. Then she instructed us to stay in our tent for the night, and she would come for us in the morning.
Hesitantly, we'd agreed, although I didn't like the sound of it, and Hailey didn't quite seem too keen on the idea either. "Oh, dammit, rain. Well, see you too in the morning!" Amber said, jumping up from her spot. Surely enough, I felt a drop of rain land on me, then another, then another, and then it was raining hard down onto us.
Every drop of water of Amber's skin seemed to evaporate off her, leaving something like a burn. "Bye!" She called, running away quickly. Hailey was running too, although towards our tent. "C'mon Grey!" She said, grabbing my hand and leading me back.
I let her, running after her quickly until we got into the tent and she collapsed. I turned around and zipped the tent flap shut so that no water would make its way into the tent. "God, I hate rain." Hailey said, panting. "I don't hate it, but I certainly don't like it." I replied, laying down next to her.
"If I changed clothes so I wasn't wet, can you promise me you wouldn't look?" She asked, regaining her breath after a few short seconds. Blushing softly, I nodded, "Promise. Same for me too."
"Okay. Now don't look." Hailey said, standing up and going over to her bag to rummage through it, before pulling out some clothing I couldn't see. True to my word, I looked away as I heard the sounds of her changing clothes. Sure, if I looked I probably wouldn't be disappointed, but...even just imagining it made a shiver travel down my spine. I wasn't ready to see that.
"Done. Your turn." She said from behind me, followed by the sound of footsteps towards me. "Thanks for not looking."
"You're welcome."
"I won't look either, now get changed." Hailey said. I stood up, walking over to my bag and getting clothes: a pair of black athletic shorts and a thin red shirt. As I took off my wet clothing and put on my clean clothing, I looked over at Hailey to make sure she wasn't looking. She wasn't. Thank God.
"Done." I said, walking over to her. Hailey turned to me and smiled, although a flash of pain swept across her face, and I noticed it. "Are you okay?" I asked, touching a hand to her shoulder. "Something felt like it was stabbing me through the stomach..." She replied honestly, looking down.
Slowly, I got closer to her and held her in my arms. "We'll get your curse broken soon. I promise." Hailey looked at me from the side, her breath ghosting across the skin of my neck, bringing a faint blush to my face. "Thanks." She whispered into my ear, her hands travelling up my back to hold onto my shoulders.
"So what do you think of Amber?" I asked after a little bit. "She's nice. And she seems honest, but I don't have a good feeling about what she says." Hailey answered quietly. "Me neither. But I think we should trust her, for now at least."
"I won't trust her, but I'll pretend to trust her until she proves trustworthy."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Hailey giggled softly and pulled away from me, looking me in the eye with the sweetest look on her face. I could feel my heart pulsing in my ears, a constant sound underneath everything else. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked, tipping her head slightly to the side. There was a playful, confused tone in her words, and it made my heart skip a beat. "You're just amazing." I said, "I love you."
She smiled, "I love you too." Hailey gave me a small kiss and hugged me tightly. Shyly, I kissed the top of her head, wrapping my arms around her as well, "Let's go to sleep."
"Okay. Goodnight." She leaned all of her weight into me and snuggled to my chest. "Goodnight, Hailey." I replied, slowly laying down so her head was on my chest. I'd come to like her sleeping there, because she was warm and comforting and...frail. As strong as she was, she was delicate, as all humans. Like me, she was fragile. And when she was on my chest, it was like we were protecting each other, in a way.
Eventually, her breathing slowed down, but I could tell she wasn't asleep. "You okay?" I asked. "Can't sleep." Hailey whispered. "Can I do anything?"
"Uhm...w-well...there's one thing. But I'm not sure...it's kind of embarrassing."
"What is it?"
"Can you sing? For me. I-I know it's stupid."
"What do you want me to sing?"
"Y-you'll do it?"
"Yeah."
"Uhm...okay. A-any song."
"Got it."
"All the clouds cover the stars,
But they all still are there.
Sparkling up in the night sky,
Watching over us from afar.
And we don't need to fear,
We don't need to ask why.
We will make it through this
We will shatter all our doubts
We will save our soldiers
When all the world is dark
Because the light shines the brightest
When all seems without hope."
"What...song was that?"
"I just kinda made it up."
Hailey yawned, snuggling closer to me. "I like...your singing voice..." She mumbled sleepily. At that moment, all I could think was that she was the greatest thing in the world. "I like your eyes." I whispered truthfully. "Mm." Hailey made a small noise, already asleep. Smiling softly, I brushed her hair out of her face.
She was asleep, peacefully. Adorably. I was adjusting to showing my affection for her, and it seemed to make her happy. Watching her so peaceful on my chest, I felt my eyelids grow heavy, and I fell victim to sleep.
My dad and I are watching a movie and legit there is a man who is a serial killer who is flirting with a teenager. I want to scream "pedophile" but my dad is here and he doesn't know I know what a pedo is-
One movie later, someone almost got raped.
And look what we got here, another movie. My dad didn't believe me the movie was Wonder Woman (hey, I didn't wanna watch it but we didn't switch the channel) but I happen to know her backstory for some reason and I was right-
