"We're here." I said, gripping tight to Grey's hand. I knew I was probably hurting him, and I felt bad, but the pain in my heart was almost too much to bear.
I'd been dreading coming back.Kira glanced at me, before walking into the house. Jade followed her sister, and Yuki stayed behind, nuzzling my ankles. "You okay?" Grey asked. I took a deep breath, nodding and giving him a weak smile. He nodded, understanding, and let me lead the way, Yuki following in our footsteps.
Jade was looking around, running her hands along the walls, while Kira was running between the rooms, giving a quick look to anything and everything. Yuki chased Kira happily. "Yuki!" I cried when he started to run upstairs, still following her. Everyone froze, looking at me as I ran over to the pup, taking him in my arms and holding him close.
"People can go up, but he might get stuck." I explained nervously, meeting each set of eyes that stared at me. Kira nodded, and continued upstairs, while Jade went back to what she was doing, and Grey gave me a look of empathy. He came over and hugged me, mindful of the puppy in my arms.
As he pulled away, Jade tapped me lightly on the shoulder. "The space works." She said. Kira ran back down, and nodded as well. "We can't use upstairs, but we might be able to renovate it. Why didn't you ever do that?"
I stiffened. "I-" I started, choking on the lump that formed in my throat. Grey touched my arm gently. "I couldn't bring myself to come back. My-...my parents died here." I said.
Kira simply nodded, although I couldn't tell if there was anything she wanted to say. "I'll get our stuff." Jade said, carefully handing her sister her guitar case. I silently thanked her for changing the subject.
Jade snapped, disappearing, as her sister sat down on the floor and opened the case. Inside was an acoustic guitar with a few foreign words drawn in black paint. "What does it say?" I asked, kneeling down to Kira. "Aishiteruyo azami ̄-chan." Kira said, and then translated. "I love you Azami-chan."I cocked my head to the side. "Azami?" Kira shook her head softly. "Kira wasn't the name I was born with. I was Azami, and Jade was Kaede." She said, frowning. "You two are close?" I asked. She nodded, her frown shifting to a soft smile, "Yeah."
A moment later, Jade was standing next to us again, with a bulletin board. "Where do you want this?" She asked. Kira pointed over to the wall, and her sister carried it there as she herself began to tune the guitar. "Do you want help?" I asked. Jade shook her head.
She disappeared, and then reappeared, handing her sister a ukulele.A few hours after nightfall, we had the entire bottom floor decorated with all of their things. The shelf I'd seen in Jade's room had been moved to the left wall of my old room. The clothes of the pair had been folded and put into the drawers of my old dresser. A mic from Kira's room had been set up in the corner, next to my old desk. In the desk's drawers went a lot of lyric books, and on top of the desk went Jade's computer, textbooks, and instrumental keyboard. Instead of using my old bed, they moved it next to the front door to remind them to get rid of it at some point, and they both decided to sleep in the center of the bedroom with all of their pillows and blankets.
Kira's bulletin board had gone in the open space near the kitchen. The pair's toiletries had been set up in the bathroom next to my old room, and we'd reinstalled all the lights to have either a violet or amber tint. Grey made sure they had electricity and running water. While Jade was bringing stuffed animals over to decorate their shared room, Grey and I had been speaking outside, and Kira had apparently spray painted flowers all over the walls.
"Hydrangeas..." I murmured, running a hand gently over the recently dried paint. "Mom mentioned Aunt Marissa liking them. So I thought it was fitting." Kira said, coming up behind me. I turned around and hugged her.
She stiffened, but hugged me back. "Thank you." I said, pulling away. She smiled gently. "You're welcome." Kira replied. "Hey, um...I have enough power for one more trip back." Jade came up behind her sister, tapping the black haired girl on the shoulder. "We should check on Mom." She said. Kira nodded, taking her sister's hand and waving. "See you soon.""What do you think are the limits to her powers?" Grey asked. I shrugged. "I'm not sure. But Zinnia said she didn't have much of an offensive ability." He nodded, "Yeah. Something like-" Yuki cut him off with a loud bark. Grey chuckled and knelt down beside the pup, petting him. "Dinner?" He asked. I nodded and began to head over to the kitchen, before stopping.
"We got rid of all the food ages ago." I said nervously, rubbing the back of my neck. "Then you could make food again?" Grey asked. The way his face lit up made me laugh. Sure it was sort of a cliche, or maybe even sexist thing, the woman makes the dinner. But honestly, I liked cooking. After...after my parents died, cooking became a way to cope. Partially because it was a way to remember how my parents would always make dinner together, laughing and smiling. I had thought it was lame when I was younger.
"Yeah. Yeah I can. I would like that." I said, grinning. Grey chuckled, and it made me instantly happy.
