Chapter Three

" What are you doing in my house?!?!" Luke yells.

" I'm Babysitting .... your sister, I guess"  My feet feel like they are bolted to the ground and my throat is starting to close.

" Oh"  he says. We both stand there for a few seconds that feel like hours.  "I guess you can go home early then" He takes his jacket off and hangs it on a nearby hook. I'm still standing in the same spot,  picking at my finger nails, feeling as awkward as can be. " Did my mom pay you before hand?" Luke asks me taking off his shoes.

" Yeah" I say finally making use of my limbs and walking over to get my stuff together, off the couch.

" Here's your phone-" I turn around a bump into Luke. " Sorry" we both say at the same time. I stagger back as Luke hands me my phone.

" Thanks" I say with a smile. I quickly gather my stuff and walk to the door. We look at each other as i'm standing by the door. He waves, giving me a why are you still in my house? face. I clue in and rush out the door, basically sprinting to my car.

I look over across from me and see Savannah yawning. One more week till winter break. I've been saying that in my head all day. Monday mornings are always the hardest.

" As you all know today is the last day to hand in your permsion slips if you don't have it, you're not going" My photgraphy teacher says. Then he rambles on about what an amazing opportinuity it will be to expand our creativity in the big apple blah blah. I'm just excited to go explore the city! I've been to New York with my family when I was twelve, but that was 5 years ago. I'm excited to go with Savannah and the rest of our class, even if it's a field trip. We leave Wednesday ( which also happens to be the day my sister comes home)  and come back on Friday. And then it's finally Winter Break.

While our teacher, Mr. Gibson keeps rambling away about our trip, Savannah leans over and whispers to me " Have you started packing yet?" I don't know why she's asking me this, she knows I hate packing. I shake my head " Can I come over and help?" she says with a sly smile. I roll my eyes and nodd. I know for a fact Savannah has been packing for weeks in her Louis Vuitton luggage, and she knows for a fact that without her I won't be packing untill Tuesday night while freaking out wondering where all my stuff is.

After school Savannah come over to help me pack. I flop on my bed while Savannah continues to search my closet.

" Do you have a hat?"  She asks me while rumaging through my closet.

" Have you ever seen me wearing a hat?"  I say while scrowling through my Twitter feed.

" It's going to be freezing! Plus you'd look good in a hat" I laugh because I know that is far from the truth.

" No thank you" I say laughing. She walks out of my closet with an outfit in hand and sits beside me. I tear my eyes from my phone and look at her.

" So, when's Lucie coming home?" Savannah asks

" Thankfully the day I leave"  I smile but Sav gives me that look like really? You're going there?

"I'm kidding!" I say to get that look off her face. " I mean she's a pain in the neck sometimes, but we're pretty close-"

Well atleast we used to be.

Ever since Lucie graduated, got into Princeton, got a rich boyfriend. She's been pretty distantant not to mention her head grew a few sizes. Before all this happened we used to tell eachother everything. We weren't bestfriends I mean we argued.. alot, but we were sisters. We always forgave eachother and laughed about it.  But ever since she graduated I've felt pretty abandoned. We haven't talked since she left for Haiti. Well except for that one phone call...
