Chapter Two
I wake up the next day tired as ever. I say that everyday but, it's true. I get ready then drag my lazy butt downstairs for breakfast. I grab my honey nut cheerios and start to pour some in my bowl.
"Good morning sweetie!!" I jump, spilling my cheerios. I see my mum all bright and perky at 7:30 in the morning. I do not know how she does it. I grumble out something meant to be "morning" but probably ended up sounding something like " warning". " 5 days!!" my mom squeals way too loud for this hour.
" 5 days till what?" I ask. 5 days till I officially have a mental break down? 5 days till I literrally drown in homework? Cause that seems pretty acurate.
" Till your sister comes home" My Mum says with an eye roll. My older sister, Lucie, has been in Haiti for the past three and half months building houses. So in 5 days she will be returining for the holidays. Not only will she come back with a nice tan to contrast my mid Decemeber pasty pale skin, but also probably whole list worth of things to brag about to my family. While during this my brother Jesse and I will be casted in her shadow. Like always.
I check the time and realize I should probably start heading to school. Thank god it's Friday. When I get there I head straight to my locker. I make my way down the semi crowded halls as I see Luke. Before I decied weather I should wave or just play it safe with a friendly smile, Luke has already stopped me. " Adeline.. right?" he asks.
" Yep that's uh, me" Really? I almost saved your life and your not sure of my name? Okay maybe I didn't save his life but, I atleast saved his hand.
" Thanks for the email yesterday, your pretty good at french" He says flining his backpack over his right shoulder.
" No worries, it was a pretty standard email"
Luke puts on a forced smile " Cool, well I'll see you later" and he walks off. Again, it seems all my converstaions with him are awkward.
Soon enough I spot Savannah out of the corner of my eye with a smile on her face.
" Why were you talking to Luke?" She asks me
" He was just thanking me for helping him with his french" I say finally arriving at my locker, starting to turn the knob of my lock.
" Lukes in Ap French?" Savannah asks me leaning against my locker. I grab my books a put them into my backpack.
" No! He just needed to email his teacher in french"
" You said he isn't in your french "
" I meant the language"
" Then when were you helping him?"
" During Science" I say starting to get annoyed
" Why would he email his teacher during science?"
" How am I supposed to know?"
Savannah shrugs and our conversation ends as we part our ways to class. I arrive to my Math class and sit at my desk. My teacher continues to read out the attendance list, and then all of a sudden a not so familar face walks into our class. " Oh you must be Colton, i'm Ms. Butler. You can take a seat over there by Caleb" My teacher says guiding this new kid to a desk. She walks up to the front of our class and introduces him. Colton walks over to his desk and sits beside Caleb. He has this confidence as he walks, not cocky, but confident. Not to mention he looks like a male model. Soon enough my teacher continues on with her lesson. I look over at Colton and he locks eyes with me, I quickly look away. Oops that's kinda embarassing. Finally, the bell rings and I rush out of class to meet Savannah and the rest of our friends for lunch.
Thankfully the rest of the day goes by pretty quick. I get home, finish my homework and have a snack. I start to pack my bag for some babysitting I have to do tonight. It's my Dads high schools friends daughter. This is my first time babysitting this little girl so i'm kinda nervous. Hopefully everything goes well. I pack some books, phone, phone charger, and some movies. I put on some comfier clothes and put my hair in a high bun. Finally I say good bye to my mom, get into my car and drive to the house.
When I arrive at the house I knock on the door. The house isn't huge , but it's pretty nice. The door opens and a blonde lady is asking me too come in. " Thank you so much for coming on such short notice" She says while putting lipgloss in her clutch. She's dressed pretty fancy so I guess her and her husband are going to a nice dinner or something.
" It's no problem at all!" I say with a smile. The lady goes over emergancy numbers and all that.
Finally her husband comes downstairs along with the little girl. " I can't thank you enough for this. We got invited to this buisness dinner last minute and usally my son does the babysitting ,but he already had plans." She says getting her coat. I say goodbye and finally they leave. Now I am alone with this little girl.
" Hi, I'm Adeline" I say crouching down to her level. She seems pretty shy ,but finally she tells me her name is Marlee. We start chatting about the holidays, and then I find out she's never seen the movie Elf ,which is a problem. It was one of the movies I brought so we put it in the dvd player and start watching. We both end up laughing a lot, and I actually enjoy hanging out with this kid.
Soon enough it is 8:30 and I help Marlee get ready for bed. She didn't relly want to,but soon enough she feel asleep around 9:00. After that I kinda just went on my phone for like an hour. I was on the couch in the den when I started to hear someone outside.
I look outiside and see someone in a balck hoodie. Which reminds me way to much of Pretty Little Liars to make me to feel comfortable. I get out my swiss army knife my dad got me for my 14th birthday and stand beside the door. The door starts to open and I start to feel extremely anxious. I don't know what to do until this person turns around and I realize it's Luke.
