If It Was Meant to Be

"Oh, come in, come in! Make yourself at home!" The blond girl said enthusiastically. I walked inside the room and it looked like a tiny apartment, open concept with a neutral color palette a breakfast bar along with the kitchen finally in the corner where two queen beds complete with desks and Secret Service outside. I looked around a bit more and saw a TV mounted on the wall and a small bathroom further along the wall. She closes the door and says

"I mean it's not the Vice President's mansion but..." 

"No, no, no it's great."

"It's much bigger than the other girl's room"

"How so?" I sit on my bed

"Well for one we have a bathroom, so your secret service don't have
to pat everyone down every time you need to..."

"Ok. So I don't know how to say this but... I don't want this to be awkward. You know what I mean." 

"Yeah totally. So I guess I never properly introduced myself. My name is Audrey Easterbrook, my mom is the CEO of Ulta Beauty. I don't say this to brag, but she sends a lot of packages. and I just wanted to warn you anyway, I applied to be your roommate so I could get this huge room, but I hope we can be friends as well." We both start laughing 

"Thank you, I hope we can coexist in this space. Even though you have been living here for like 3 months."

"Ok, well you have a big day ahead of you tomorrow. Your uniform is in the closet and Barron is coming to pick us up for math at 7:30"

"Ok. It's getting kinda late so maybe we should turn in for the night." 

"Good idea. Are you hungry or something?

" She walks over to the fridge "We have" she opens it 

"Nothing. Sorry. We need to go shopping. And since your here now you can go with Barron tomorrow after school."

"That's fine with me," I say as I take my pj's out and put them on. Next thing I know I'm asleep even before my head hit the pillow."

At exactly 6:40 am I am met with a rude awakening. I get up and notice that Audrey is still sleeping. We don't really know each other that so I'm wondering if it's my place to wake her up. After a moment I decide to brush my teeth and see where we are then. I got to the bathroom ended up showering brushing and putting my hair into a high ponytail which is a whole job in and of itself. After that, I put on my new St.Mary's uniform. It's a dark maroon blazer with a relatively short checkered skirt and white buttoned up top. Obviously all with the St Mary's crest. When I finally came out it was 7:10 and Audrey was outside

"I thought you would never come out."


"Sorry I thought you were still sleeping"

"It's fine I think I'll just do a no makeup, makeup look."

"Cool I'll go make us some coffee"

"Yes, I need the energy," she says right before she walks into the bathroom. 

I walk into the kitchen and look at the coffee maker and... it's really complicated. Like you know how people say "it's not rocket science" in this case it is. There are nobs and handles and everything in between. I have no idea what I'm doing but I don't want to ask Audrey because I already feel bad about staying in the bathroom too long. I'm conflicted so I do what any rational person would do and start looking for the manual. Just as I start to tear apart the drawers and cabinets I hear Barron's voice.

"Good morning" I jumped, shocked.

"You can't just sneak up on me like that!" 

"Whatever. So what are you doing?"

"Trying to figure out this coffee machine. But it's not worth it. I think I'm just gonna postmates some Starbucks."

"Good luck."

"What are you talking about?" 

"The nearest Starbuck is like 50 miles from here."

"Please tell me your joking" he just smirked confirming my fear

"Well I guess you should go tell Audrey that there's no breakfast," I say 

"It's fine we can go to my room, I'm pretty sure we have some there."

"I am not going into a room alone with you," I say as he starts opening the door 

"What. Afraid I'm gonna try and kiss you or something?" He says sarcastically. Just before I can answer with a resounding no Audrey walks in and say

"You couldn't get the coffee maker to work," she says as she grabs our backpack, handing one to me 

"Thank you and yes." She grabs her phone

"Ok let's go to Ethan's room I'm pretty sure that I left my older one there"

"That's what I've been saying but she refuses to be in a room alone with me"

"I don't blame her, I mean who would want to be in a room with you?" We walk out towards the boy's dorm up the stair

"Hey!" Barron respondent

"Oh please, your ego is so fragile!" I add

"You both are so mean without your caffeine, it's insane" we all laugh at this. 

In no time we reach the door, Barron volunteers to open the door and the first thing I see is Elise. Well if I'm being more explicit Elise kissing Ethan hard, a lot and well everywhere he had her red lipstick all over him. It was actually kinda gross, but I'm not judging. Barron's about to close the door so they can "finish" but Audrey is determined.

 She opens the door wide which scares the two lovebirds of each other. Walks inside like a boss and starts heading to the kitchen. Their room is mostly like our just imagine it more like a bachelor pad. She walks in and starts to make the coffee Barron and I follow and sit on the couch. Ethan sits upon his bed his previous randevu happened 

"Some privacy please." At this point Elise sits up with Ethan playing with hair and glaring menacingly at Audrey 

"Oh please, we both know you're a whore who can't keep it in his damn pants. I'm lucky I dodged a bullet" she mutters the last part. 

Suddenly it all clicks. Audrey must have been the girl Barron was talking about. Ethan must have cheated, and we can all guess with who. But if that's the case then they've only been broken up for two weeks.

 The realization shocked me, to say the least, I mean Ethan doesn't seem like a cheater, and well why would you want to cheat on Audrey? She's gorgeous, funny, and from what I can gather is probably a really good person. She doesn't deserve this. On the other hand, there are two sides to every story and for some reason, I'm having a hard time seeing his. 

"Audrey, calm down" Ethan offers 

"I'm fine, I just came here to get coffee, I'll be leaving soon. So you can get back to your whore." She says sarcastically 

"Hey!" Elise protests. Ethan doesn't defend her. Soon after that, we leave the room with a to-go cup and a purpose.
