Brooke POV
I open the door all at once. I was trying to make it like ripping a bandaid but seeing Barron and some girl with a short brown bob and a thick Australian accent is totally overwhelming on the senses. Well it wasn't the fact that he was with some random girl, that was weird, it was that they were screaming bloody murder and I couldn't hear it outside. But I guess that's the White House for you, twists at every turn. I stand in the doorway for about a minute too consumed in my own thoughts to hear what they were yelling about when the Australian girl turns to me.
"Oh hello, you must have heard all the ruckus we were making. I'm so sorry honey bear over here just dropped a glass." She says sweetly
"You mean throw it at you" Barron huffs
"All is forgiven. Anyway about that glass. We wouldn't want anyone to get hurt, would we." She walks over to Barron and starts rubbing his shoulders. He moves her hands."Especially not when we are carrying such precious cargo." She says softly
"Uh ok, if you need help you could always call housekeeping." I say awkwardly
"Am I mistaken, is that not you?" She says with genuine curiosity in her voice. I want to respond but what do you say to that? And for all I know this girl could be the key to a nuclear arms deal. But if she is Barron throwing stuff at her probably wasn't a good idea.
"You know what I will get a staff member and leave you two alone." I say trying to be on the safe side
"You really are as dumb as you look. Because you don't know real power when you are looking right at it. This is not some low level maid it's Brooke Ballard as in Vice President Ballard so you better shut your mouth if you ever want to show your face in this town again!" Barron practicality yells as I was about to make a smooth getaway. I know I'm in this conversation now so I close the door and hope for the best.
"Brooke Ballerd... Americans' new 'it' girl. And the occasional homewrecking whore." She says condescendingly
"What are you talking about!?" I say
"Oh my honey bear didn't tell you."
"Tell me what?" I look up at Barron
" Paige and I-"
"Are dating" she finishes
"Were? Past tense" Barron says
"We're going through a rough patch."
"We can't be going through a rough patch if we're not dating."
"Honey bear-"
"You know what? I can't deal with this right now, get out."
"Come on baby you know you love me."
"Out!"
"You know where to find me. Also just and FYI I'm going to be in Maryland in a week or two maybe I'll stop bye to see what's up with Audrey and her boy toy or possibly Charlie I heard he's a lacrosse player now."she says as she closes the door leaving Barron and I alone.
"So you want to talk about what just happened?" I ask
"Not really." He responds
"Barron." He motions for me to sit on the couch next to him. He takes a deep breath.
"What I'm about to tell you... I'm not exactly proud of it. Keep in mind that I was fourteen and stupid. When I was in New York me Audrey Charlie and Paige were somewhat of a group. Somewhere along the line we developed feelings for each other. Things were going fine until my father won the election. The secret service hauled me off to St Mary's and I never looked back. So Paige and I never formally broke up. But I thought that even though she is in the same grade as us she was a little bit older and would understand so that we could deal with is like mature adults but obviously us 'dating' probably set her of so it seems like she's out for blood."
"Yeah there is a certain someone back home that I hope never catches wind of this."
"I thought this was your home."
"It is but I did spend a year in Minnesota. And well we don't have to get into that."
