chapter 14

• Third person •

The next morning everyone was very tired from the night before. It was early in the morning and everyone was asleep except two.

Johnny went into Kenzie's room, knocking on the door before. Since they were in Georgia they thought they both go on a trip to Atlanta for the day.

''Kenzie? Don't tell me you're still sleeping! We only have today to see Atlanta! Hurry up!'', he shouts trying to wake her up.

They drove to Atlanta and walked around the city and visited places there. They talked about their life's and other random stuff.

''Wow, your life is very exciting.'', she admits, after John told her a little about the past years.

''I have to say, it's a great job.'', he says.

''I think so too. You must have seen a lot in the world.'', she says. Other than Johnny, Kenzie stayed home the whole time, but she didn't mind at all. She build her own simple life there. She became a nurse like she wanted to and she had her friends and family. What else did she need?

''You can't even imagine. I love my life, Mackenzie.'', he says as she looks at him. A smile formed on her lips. She's glad that he didn't regret his decision and lives his dream. ''I couldn't even live like you people.'', he says as she raises her eyebrows confused. ''Come.'', he walks ahead.

''Living like us? What do you mean?'', she asks walking after him.

''Well, living in the same street, in the same city, in the same house for the rest of your life. Aren't you scared of it?'', he says.

''Not at all. I actually like that life.'', she says as he looks at her. ''And I don't want a life like yours, everyone needs a home.'', she says, this time she walks ahead.

Johnny looks at her as he walked after her. ''You can only say that because you barely saw the world. You have no idea how amazing the life can be in other countries.''

''And you have no idea how amazing the life can be at home.'', she says as she walks faster again, away from him.

He smirked and walked up to her again. Let the competition begin.

''You have no idea how great it is to sit with other people and listen to their life story.'', he continued. They walked to a market with a lot of stands.

Kenzie got the hint and continued the competition as well. ''And you have no idea how great it is to sit with your friends and talk about the old memories.'', she says as she takes a head from a stand and puts it on his head. ''Looks good on you.'' And went to another stand while they talked.

''When you come to San Fransisco with me one day, I'll take you out for my favorite lamb burger. You'll be amazed'', he says.

''When you try my self-made lamb biryani, your burger can pack.'', she says. They continue this conversation for long.

''You have never seen Paris.'', he says.

''Have you ever been part of a birth?'', she says smiling.

''No. But I have some kids in Paris somewhere.'', he jokes looking at her.

''You're so dumb.'', she laughs looking at him as well.

Then they continue comparing the beautiful things they've seen and the other has missed until they stopped.

''You'll be a thick mom someday. With two kids. And I'll be fit like a sneaker.'', he says after they hadn't spoken for a while.

She glances at him as he grins. ''Not two. Six. And while we're sitting on the couch reading Harry Potter part 20, you'll be in an African jungle looking for water.'', she says as she walks away again.

Johnny quickly grabs her by her wrist turning her. They make eye contact.

''You're not wrong, You're different than me.'', he says.

''I know.'', she slightly smiles. She hold eye contact for a few more seconds before turning to walk again.

''Wait.'', he calls after looking after her for a second.

She stops and turns around.

''Do you seriously want six kids!? Then you can name a few of them Johnny.'', he says.

''Oh please.''

''And are they all going to be from the same man or should I help?'', he continues grinning.

''Go away, Johnny!'', she chuckles walking away.

''Imagine how handsome our kids would be. With my looks and my brains.'', he shouts after her.

She goes back and hits his arm. ''You're so dumb!'', she walks away again laughing.

''What!?'', he laughs too going after her.

They were sitting on a roof of a building as Kenzie just ended a call and looks at the sky while Johnny packs his bag.

''Come, hurry up. We don't want to miss the light show.'', he says.

''I'm really tired. And it's really beautiful here.'', she says not moving from her place.

''After you've seen this, you'll find it more beautiful.'', he says.

''You can't do everything on one day.'', she says.

''Yes, I can.'', he says. He pulls out a checklist out of his bag and points to the only not ticked space. ''Look. Then we have everything.''

She takes the list out of his hand throws it down the building. ''Check.'', she grins looking at him as he glares at her. ''Shut up already and sit down.'' He then sits down next to her.

''What if we later find out that the light show was amazing?'', he says looking at her again.

''I bet it's fantastic. But if we go there, we'll miss the beautiful sunset.'', she says, looking at him. ''No matter what you do, you'll always miss something. So enjoy the moment and be happy.''

She turns back to the sunset while he stares at her thinking, before turning to the sky as well.

Later they drove back in an uber. Johnny looks out of the window, looking sad and in his thoughts.

They sat in a comfortable silence until he spoke up.

''Three years ago I worked for the company Trek America.'', he begins causing Kenzie to turn to him, him still looking out the window. ''I went on a mountain hike with 20 other people. When we came back and my phone had connection again, I got over 100 messages on my mailbox from my family, Hayden, Annie... my father had died. He died on Monday and I found out on Saturday. They already did the funeral.'' Kenzie looks at him sympathetically as he continued. ''We haven't talked in over a month, haven't seen each other in 2 1/2 years. He kept saying we have to see each other. I should've listened to him.'', he sighed as Kenzie put her hand over his.

He looked down at them as she crawled on his arm and layed her head on his shoulder. He did the same as they fell asleep like that.

When they arrived, Johnny woke up slowly looking at Kenzie who's head was right next to his.

She woke up too, looking at him as they make eye contact. They both slowly lean in, only being less than an inch apart.

Kenzie quickly stood up, looked down for a second and left the car as Johnny looked after her and sighed.
