She felt the feeling of the presences through her, it was more powerful than when they had first contacted her.
"Ashley." Lyra's voice came out like a flame. "What is the meaning of this? Have you made your choice?"
"She's clearly in danger. But... she shouldn't have had the power to bring us both at once?" Psyche's more cold and feminine voice pointed out questioningly.
"Why child, it seems as though you may not have to." his voice said with... laughter?
"She has chosen alright. She's chosen both." she said in an amused tone.
The men seemingly didn't hear this conversation as they approached her.
"Good girl. We may just go easy if you go down willingly." the one she assumed to be their leader said.
"I'm not going down." Ash said with a smirk.
She felt a weightless sort of feeling then a burst of strength.
"You won't be able to summon a feral my dear, however we can give you what we can." Psyche's gentle voice explained.
"I suppose we'll just do it the hard way." the man responded, taking out his knife once again.
He had a large object barely contained inside his pocket, but she didn't think much of it.
A fighting instinct overwhelmed Ash as she sped towards him, knocking the weapon out of his hand before kicking him backwards. He fell onto the ground in surprise and the other men came running at her. She jumped backwards and let two of them slam into each other leaving only two left standing as they fell.
"You'll pay for that bitch!" one yelled as he charged at her.
She ducked under his fist as he attempted a punch and elbowed him from behind. His face slammed into the sidewalk, leaving a bloody puddle from the broken nose the ground had given him. The last guy looked shaken and stepped backwards cautiously.
"Don't fuck with me." Ash spoke as she looked over the group. "And if I see one more report about a woman assaulted, you won't see another sunrise." she threatened.
Ash walked back down the concrete path before hearing a loud sound. She felt a sudden pain in her calf, but ignored it, taking off into a sprint home. She got to her house and- Wait... her house? Ash supposed she was finally getting used to it being her residence. The pain in her calf continued as she opened the door and stepped inside. Maia was pacing nervously in the living room when she saw her.
"Oh my god Ash! Are you okay?" she screeched as she ran into the room with her friend.
"Yeah? Sorry for being out so late." she apologized.
"Your leg! It's bleeding everywhere!" Maia screamed frantically.
Ash looked down and noticed her friend was right. Lodged in the back of her calf was a small silver bullet with blood dripping down all around it. It suddenly clicked with her- that guy had been carrying a gun in his pocket.
The pain started to set in as she lost her adrenaline. She fell to the floor and cradled her leg up to her chest.
"I- I don't feel so good..."
"Mom! Dad! Call an ambulance!" Maia yelled.
~~~~~~
Did you think this was gonna be a sappy love story? Hah- no. Poor Ash, being a badass can't save you from a gun :(. Stay safe! <3
