"Hey Maia." Conner's voice greeted through her phone.

"Conner? No. Not speaking to you right now." Maia responded, rolling her eyes and reaching for the end call button.

"Wait! Please! You can't let Ash enter. You're the closest one to her and she won't talk to me because we fought about it, but she got her spirit tested. She's not strong enough to fight." he pleaded

"I... really?" she asked hesitantly.

"I wouldn't lie. Please, don't let her go Maia..."

"I'll... do what i can." she responded.

"So many... fucking... groceries..." Laurence complained as he placed the bags on Charlie's counter. He had been holding at least four bags in each hand, as well as holding a child on his back.

"Watch your profanity." Charlie warned as he started putting everything away.

"Make me." he retorted. "I've never been inside your house before; it looks nice."

"Thanks!" the boy responded.

Ash checked her phone, the time reading 5 pm.

"I should probably get back before Maia chews me out for abandoning her. See you all at school tomorrow?"

"Mhm! I've never missed a day in my life." Charlie smiled proudly.

"Nerd." Laurence mumbled.

"I suppose we'll see when you're working minimum wage." he replied, smirking.

"Can I come with you Ashy?" Trina asked cutely.

"I'm sorry kiddo, you have to stay here." she responded sympathetically. "However, if Charlie says I'm allowed to, I'll come see you again soon."

"Yay!" Trina yelled happily, giving her a hug.

"Bye guys!" Ash said as Trina let her go, heading to the door.

She stepped outside after they had all exchanged goodbyes and headed into the humid summer air. School would be out in two weeks and the lunar eclipse would happen four days later. Oh, and she was turning 18 in a week but that wasn't something she was all too wrapped up in.

She continued walking back to her house, a mile and a half journey, when she was stopped by a group of men in all black.

"Hey there pretty lady- wanna have some fun?" one of them asked, smiling maliciously.

"No thank you." she responded, attempting to walk around them.

They stepped in front of her and a few flanked her from the back. She was surrounded. There were five guys total, and one pulled out a pocket knife.

"Aw baby we just wanna mess around a little bit." the guy said, flipping the knife open and pointing it at her.

"I'd suggest you move out of my way before I make a mess of you." she said coldly.

"Ooh, we got ourselves a little fighter. C'mon boys, take her down."

A guy behind her attempted to tackle her down, but she gave him an uppercut to the chin causing him to fall backwards with a yell. Another guy grabbed her arm, but she pulled out of his grasp and took off running through the gap she'd created by knocking down the first guy.

"Get her!" the pocket knife guy yelled as he and the others chased her.

Tears ran down her face as she sped down the road. At this rate, she wouldn't live to save her brother. She knew about these men, they were part of a gang who had been terrorizing women and making headlines for it.

She wouldn't go down here. No, she was going to save Nigil. She suddenly had an idea. Ash stopped in her tracks and faced the men. Naturally, they slowed down in confusion.

"Lyra! Psyche!" she yelled.

~~~~~~
Aw man I definitely wouldn't have had the guts to uppercut a guy. What do you think will happen next? Stay safe! <3
