I'll Make It Up For You

"Cari, would you do me a favor today?" Shannon asked while getting ready to go to the hospital. She had a major surgery to lead that day that would probably take more than twelve hours to finish. She had a long day ahead.

"Of course, what is it?" Cari was waiting for her, ready to go home, after sleeping over her house.

"I was thinking of leaving you my car today so you could pick me up after work if that's okay with you. Alfred is in Orlando with my parents and I don't like driving after these long surgeries, I get a little dizzy after so many hours of being too focused."

"Of course babe. Just let me know when you're ready and I'll be there."

"Great, I'll call you when we finish it then. Thank you baby."

"You know what I was also thinking?" Cari said. "I know you're gonna be tired, and I swear I will not bother you and I'll let you rest, but why don't you leave me your keys so I can prepare you dinner and a nice bath for when you get home?"

"Oh, that sounds fantastic." Shannon kissed her lips before checking the time in her phone. "It's time to go. Will you drop me there, please?"

"Yeah, just let me grab my stuff."

After dropping Shannon at the hospital and wishing her the best of luck on the surgery, she went back home.

Things were going great between them and Cari decided to ignore the fact that she was hiding some things from Shannon and let their relationship flow.

The connection between them was something magical and she really felt like Shannon could be, in fact, her soul mate. All she had to do was make sure the doctor never found out about her previous life, the rest she would find a way to keep away from her knowledge.

She spent the day planning everything she had to do for when Shannon left work. She went to the grocery store, bought all the things she needed to prepare dinner and a nice bath with everything she could think off, her hard working girl deserved it. She grabbed what she needed from home and went straight to the doctor's house. She didn't want to risk being late.

While she read the recipe she was going to make, her mind went back to the old days. If it wasn't for Shannon, she would now be taking a closer look into every object in the house, planning what was the most valuable item she could take with her when she left.

It would also be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of being alone in her victim's house and discover some of their dirty work in case she needed something to blackmail them if something went wrong. She always needed to be one step ahead in order to protect herself.

But now, she couldn't care less if the painting hanging on the living room was worth ten million dollars. She couldn't care less if Shannon would bring her a flower instead of a diamond necklace. She wasn't giving a damn about those things anymore. And she didn't know if that made her feel more relieved or scared. How could someone change so much in such a small space of time?

Cari stopped the car right in front of Shannon, who were waiting for her alone at the hospital parking lot. It was almost 10PM when she called her to pick her up. Her fragile voice conveyed how tired she was, so she drove there as fast as she possibly could. Shannon entered the car and greeted Cari with a little kiss, putting her stuff over the back seat.

"Hi babe, how are you?" Cari felt her heart shrink when she saw the tiredness on Shannon's face.

"Exhausted." Shannon leaned her head on the car seat with her eyes closed.

"Aww, I'm so sorry." Cari started the car and drove out of the parking lot. "How was the surgery?"

"We had some complications with the transplant, but in the end everything worked out."

"Thank God." Cari reached for Shannon's hand and intertwined their fingers together while she drove back to the house. "Dinner is ready, I just need to finish heating it up okay?"

"Perfect, I'm starving."

"And then, you're gonna have a nice hot bath and I'm gonna tuck you in bed until you fall asleep."

"Ooh, I love being spoiled." Shannon smiled at her with her red eyes. "Thank you so much babe, you didn't had to bother."

"Yes I did, what kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn't help making your day better after working so much for that long?" They both went silent after realizing what Cari had just said. They still didn't make things official between them, but, to be fair, the only thing left to call themselves a couple was the request and the yes, other than that, they had been acting like one for weeks now. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that." Cari awkwardly apologized for her slip, trying to pull her hand away from Shannon's, but the doctor held it tighter, not letting her.

"No. Don't apologize. I loved hearing that." Shannon was looking at her while she kept her attention on the road. "In fact, I don't know why I still haven't asked you this but, do you wanna be my girlfriend?"

"I don't know if you're being serious right now or you just doing this to make me feel better." Cari turned her head to face her when a red traffic light stopped their way.

"I've never been more serious in my entire life." Shannon fixed a lock of blonde hair over the side of Cari's face. "I'm sorry for the shitty request, but I promise I'll make it up to you if you say yes."

"In that case." Cari leaned over the passenger side, trying to get closer to Shannon. "I accept."

"Perfect." Shannon grabbed Cari's face with her free hand and kissed her lips, with both of them smiling through it. Now it was official. Shannon Beveridge was her freaking girlfriend and she couldn't be happier about it. Life is a box full of surprises isn't it?
