A.N-

Question. Does anyone read the authors' notes? If I am reading a story, I would say that I read the author notes around 1 in 5 chapters. What about you guys? Enjoy the story! -Westley

"Crescent! Where are you you little brat!" He shouted from downstairs. "Have you made dinner yet?"

"No, sir," I replied shyly. "You banned me from using the stove last week when I burned myself while cooking breakfast." I knew what was coming. There isn't any way I could win in this situation. Obviously, I didn't make dinner cause he banned me from using the stove. If I did he would hit me for disobeying his orders, and if I didn't he would hit me for not having dinner ready when he got home. Sure enough, as soon as he got to the top of the stairs, he tramped toward me and slapped me across the face.

I had gotten used to this of course. I got hit almost every day. The maids in his house knew all about me, but if they told anyone they would suffer the same way as me. I was trapped with no one coming to rescue me. My family and friends believed that I had chosen my mate over them, and to everyone else, I was just irrelevant and unimportant.

I felt a kick to my stomach and I fell over with a groan. "How dare you disrespect me, your alpha!" He cried out, continuing to kick me in the stomach and chest. "You are supposed to be my mate and have dinner ready."

"I'm sorry sir," I wailed. "I will do better next time."

Suddenly I felt great pain in my chest as a loud cracking noise resounded throughout the house. He must have broken one of my ribs. With that, he seemed satisfied with his work and left me lying on the ground, curled up in pain.

When I woke up, I was still lying on the ground. As I tried to sit up, I winced in pain as my chest ached from where I was kicked yesterday. I stumbled to the kitchen to make breakfast for Alpha Blackwood. In there, I ran into my best and only friend Gladice.

Gladice is 83 years old and has been working for the Blackwood family for over 75 years when they raided her village and kidnapped her. Ever since then, she has been working as a servant for the Blackwood family and has taken care of the house. When I was brought to the house, I instantly bonded with her and now we are great friends.

"Hey, buddy." She said with a smile. "What are you up to?"

"Oh, I was just about to give Alpha Blackwood his breakfast." Suddenly her face turned to a frown.

"Oh, I wouldn't go into his office if I were you. Don't tell anyone I told you this but the Alpha King hasn't visited this pack in over 50 years. The king's court is getting suspicious and there is a chance that they might raid the packhouse. Our Alpha is worried and he is putting everyone at risk."

"Wait, so does that mean that we have a chance to escape?" She let out a small chuckle.

"Good heavens, no. These raids happen more often than people think. Our Alpha just has gotten better at covering them up. Do you remember last year when those rouges attacked our village? Those weren't rogues, they were the king's men trying to attack."

"But that was when they killed Alpha Blackwood's mate!"

"Yes, they needed to teach him that there would be consequences for lying and hiding from them."

"But, why doesn't he just let them in?"

"He can't silly, if the king and his court found out that he was keeping people like you and me here, they would take away his land and his pack. He has also made deals with hunters, vampires, and other magical creatures to gain more land and kill off his enemies. That is strictly forbidden under werewolf law and punishable by death."

I stared at her in shock. How had I never heard about any of this? When would the next raid happen?

"Now, if they hear either of us talk about these kinds of things they will have our heads. Understand?" I nodded my head "Good, now go back to your room and get some rest. You need it."

"But, Alphas Breakfast..."

"I will give the Alpha is breakfast. Now shoo, I don't want to see you any more of you."
