After everything, Urokodaki-san, who was watching the whole thing, praised us and declared we were to advance with the final selection after two full years of hard work.

Of course, Tanjiro got emotional while I didn't feel much. However, something did bother me. Yoriichi didn't say a word. There was no praise or criticism. Just an eerie silence.

Urokodaki-san brought us back to his residence at the foot of Sagiri mountain. He gave Tanjiro and I chance to warm up a little before cooking and serving us hot pot.

"How's the hot pot?" He asks as we feasted on the food presented to us. 'Delightful...' I thought but I didn't bother to voice out my opinions.

"It tastes delicious Urokodaki-san! But what's the occasion?" Tanjiro beamed with his usual bright smile. "The both of you get to proceed to the final selection. This is a very important occasion." He explained with his usual brood voice from behind his goblin mask.

After our dinner, Tanjiro started to cut his hair. I guess I didn't really realize it but his hair really did grow out over the course of the past years an well, so did mine.

Before Tanjiro stood up, finished with his haircut, I took my opportunity. "Tanjiro. Can you cut my hair as short as yours?" I plainly asked him from the other side of the room, my back facing him.

"Of course! Sit down in front of me and I'll help." He responded with his usual animated character. I strolled towards him and took my seat in front of him, untying my long, (h/c), hair and letting it fall over my shoulder.

He covered my shoulders with a cloth, pushing my hair out of the way and wiping the scissors of his hair. I heard the scissors' sharp snipping and saw the soft locks of my hair fall onto the turfed floor.

"I didn't know you liked short hair. Whenever mother suggested cutting your hair, you always tole her "only a little"." He giggled, cutting my hair, bunch by bunch.

"You always said some change is good once in a while. I just wanted to test that theory." I admitted out of honesty, hearing snips awfully close behind my ear.

"You don't have to be so formal around me, okay?" He reassured with a ruffle of my hair and a cordial tone. I couldn't find the words to respond and stayed silent.

After a few more minutes of snipping and more hair falling, I heard the sliding door of the room opening, revealing Urokodaki-san at the doorway, two fox masks in hand.

"Urokodaki-san, what are those?" Tanjiro asked, halting his hands as to not make a mistake on my hair while his attention was divided.

"These are warding masks. I've charged it with a protection spell and want you two to have one each." He stated in his normal coarse voice, setting both masks down on the ground beside us.

Tanjiro thanked him dearly, resuming my haircut, while I stayed silent, inspecting the masks from a distance. Afterwards, Urokodaki-san left us in the room, allowing us to proceed with our business.

"Done!" Tanjiro sang with a light sound, setting down the hair scissors and removing the cloth over my shoulders. He ruffled my hair, forcing the small bits of hair that stayed to fall down onto the cloth-covered floor like snow.

He held out a mirror in front of me so that I could see what he had down with my hair. The result was similar to Tanjiro's style but more swerved to the right.

"Do you like it?" He asked, tilting his head to the side with a grin. I inspect it with my usual blank expression, pinching a small tuft of hair and turning my head. I eventually answered his question.
