The Forest chapter 11

MATT

I left the hospital after giving the police report and Brian's things to his father. I'd left him my details too. The police had returned his driving licence and taken his phone as evidence. There was no word from Alice and I was on my way to report her disappearance.

It all sounded like I was dealing with it well but I wasn't. I'd only known her for a day but she had made a big impression on me. At the police station I filled in the form. When I gave it in, everything suddenly hit me. I sat in the waiting room and I couldn't stop shaking. The two policemen who knew everything (they'd seen it with me) came in and took me home.

It was some time before I could function again. My mother came and cancelled the few bookings I had. The police had searched Alice's room the following day. It wasn't until the next Monday that they told me the result of the investigation so far. I was ready to listen and understand by then.

They found out her personal details, and medical history. But they couldn't tell me that. No body was found but they feared that the man I'd found in the car might have been involved, but they couldn't know for sure until he woke up. Also his last call that evening had been to Alice. The future girlfriend. I hadn't recognized her number.

The father denied that his son knew her but I told the police what he said. His dad probably hated Alice right now. Brian had been moved to a hospital in London so all I could do was search by myself. The police also said there was a chance the message she had left was a suicide note. I didn't believe that for a second.

Other evidence. Earring found in MR BRIAN RICHARDSON's vehicle with MISS ALICE MACDARA'S DNA. Medication found spilled in the room. Sleeping pills and tranquilizers.

Message on notice board. (I've just gone for a walk. I'm going to eat at a pub a bit far away. Don't worry I'll be back by nine. I'm glad all this will be over soon. Thank you!).
Suspects so far, causes of disappearance. On going analysis.

First suspect, MR BRIAN RICHARDSON. Proven alibi. Confirmed to be in his car outside the accommodation, several miles away from Alice's last location. Other leads link to MR B RICHARDSON, Father witnessed by MR STANFORD to have a dislike for Alice. Proven alibi, in London at time of disappearance.

Other conclusions, possible suicide, see message left above, pills and medical history also.
Possible that Alice got lost on the way back to her accommodation.
