The sudden pain was unbearable, I had never felt something like this before. A minute ago I was dreaming about castles made out of candy and now I was sitting straight up on the old squeaky bed with the black handle of a dagger sticking out of my chest.

I screwed up, I knew I shouldn't have trusted this rundown Inn called the Avocadinn. Unfortunately, it was the only one I could afford in this godforsaken city of Gabedam.

I looked around the room, it was the smallest room in the Avocadinn, there was just enough room for the bed, a little closet and an old chair with my flight-ready bag resting on it. The only light in the room came from the moon shining in through a broken little round window that had already been broken before I settled in three days ago.

I didn't see anyone who could have plunged the knife into my chest, it wasn't the first time someone tried to kill me in the middle of the night, but not a single one has gotten away with it, till now it seems.

I grabbed the handle of the dagger and started pulling it out of my chest slowly, for fuck sake that hurts.

When the dagger was completely out someone started to maunder, "so it's true that you can't be killed?"

I couldn't see the person saying it, which probably tried to kill me, and more importantly, was still in my room. While examining the dagger, which apparently was one of my own judging by the D.A. engraved in the red pommel, I calmly responded, "no I can't be killed, but it still fucking hurts to get stabbed in the middle of the night. And if you would be so kind as to show yourself I would be more than happy to let you experience just how much."

"I-i'm sorry, I didn't know it was gonna h-hurt," stuttered the voice, it sounded like a scared girl.

"What did you think? That you can stab someone right through the heart and it isn't gonna hurt?" I was getting angrier whilst asking these questions. It was always the same, it has been that way since I became immortal seven years ago on my fifteenth birthday. Ever since there have been multiple attempts on my life, they never killed me obviously but it always hurts like hell.

"He said you didn't feel pain, I had to know if he was right."

"So you thought let's just stab her with her own dagger in the middle of the night and see what happens! What would you have done if I died? Walk away and pretend as nothing happened?" I scowled while throwing the dagger in the direction of the voice. The girl squeaked as the dagger plunged into the wall.

"Please don't kill me!" she screamed. "I was only following his orders, and need your help-"

"Why would I help you and not kill you right here?"

"Because he will send more assassins, till you're dead, and I'm your only hope of stopping him."

For the first time in years, it felt like I had lost control of the situation, sure I had made some enemies along the way but none of them wealthy enough to hire assassins to hunt me down.

My voice trembled while asking, "Who is sending the assassins, and why did he send you first?"

"Because I'm Magic Magi, the best goddamn assassin this world has ever seen," she said proudly, I could hear how proud she was about the title, even though she was still invisible, I was pretty sure she was smiling.

"A-and he is -" I could hear her sigh- "my father."
