The losers soon arrive at the field by the barrens, not knowing where to go or what to do. Richie had stopped chasing Stan because they were getting tired.
So there they were. Just sitting.
Until Bev's outburst "I'M FUCKING BORED!" she dragged the 'o' out.
"Me too" Ben agreed, speaking for the entire group. "what're we supposed to do?"
"How are we supposed to know what to do? We're all sitting here bored." Richie pointed out as he laid down on the ground, head on a rock that was near Eddie.
"Well we could actually go to the arcade.." Eddie suggested, thinking about it "I heard they're doing some sort of convention thing for video game nerds like Richie."
"Indeedy they are, my kind sir!" Richie used the British voice and continued "They have the finest popcorn and slushies just for you lovers! And I'm not a nerd, may I add"
"Whatever Richie, and why are you calling our group lovers too?" Ben questions Richie with a puzzled look.
"Because it's less degrading than losers." Richie claimed, his freckled tan-ish face looking at him as if it was obvious.
"H-h-h-how do you even kn-know what that w-w-w-word m-means?" Bill's beautiful brown-redish hair was glistening in the sun as it flew around from the wind.
That comment earned quite a few laughs from the group as they all did different things, Bill was playing with strands of Stan's noodle-like hair. Stan laid his head in Bill's lap and stared up at Bill with wide but soft eyes, he didn't know it was possible for this boy to be so pretty by doing absolutely nothing. Ben was playing with a tiny stick in his hands and staring at Beverly, who was laying on the ground in the middle of the group and playing with her lighter. Tracing the edges of the design that was slowing ripping off, Ben was hopelessly in love with this girl. Who wasn't? even if you are gay, you can't deny that fact that she is beautiful and everyone falls in love with the pretty girl at least once.
Eddie was zipping and unzipping his fanny pack, out of anxiety, what caused him to feel so anxious he didn't know. Richie was attempting to act offended by Bill's statement while he was still laying on a rock. Mike was attempting to braid tiny braids into Richie's odd yet curly hair as he sat on the other side of the rock.
"Well the fuck are we doing? Are we going to the arcade or not??" Beverly said as she sit up pushing her hand through her fiery red hair slicking it back for just a second before it bounces back into place. The losers can't help but adore her in her beauty, especially Ben.
"Let's just go already!" Richie said almost trying to stand up before he felt a tight yank on his hair "ow! what was that for?"
"Let me finish this braid then we can go" mike replied, knowing that Richie would be annoyed about it.
While Mike finished Richie's hair the rest of the group besides Eddie talked in a small group about what to do at the arcade that they will later share with the boy braiding hair.
Richie started picking up the small pebbles around him that were in his reach and begin throwing them at Eddie to the best of his ability. Eddie didn't know why, but Richie being his usual self and teasing him immediately calmed his nerves. Although it was annoying, as anyone could imagine. "Quit it Rich." More pebbles came at his leg "Dude stop! That's annoying"
And then Richie felt a sharp tug on his scalp making him wince "I'm done, and leave your lover boy alone" he got up and walked over to where everyone's bike was thrown on the ground. Everyone's except for Stan of course, who had always used his kickstand since he got the bike.
"Maybe I'll call him that more, thanks for the new nickname Mikey!" Richie sat up and stretched, Eddie could see the freckles dancing around on Richie's shoulders as the sleeves of his t-shirt rolled down. He didn't realize he was staring for a minute, until Richie had called him from over on his bike, as all the losers were mounted. "Oh lover boy~"
Eddie shook his head and looked in the direction of his friends and sat there for a moment before he scrambled onto his feet, "I'm coming, and stop calling me that-" he mounted his bike "you know my name is Eddie and you know that I hate it when you call me anything else."
The losers started off to the arcade, and Bev butted in to stop the two from bickering further "Does anyone even have money for the arcade?"
Richie groaned at the question "God damnit." He knew that no one would have money and he had left his at home, so he split off from the group before he heard shouts asking where he was going. He simply shouted back, "GOT CASH AT HOME, ILL MEET YOU THERE!"
But Eddie had already turned off with him.
"Hey Richie?"
Richie jumped and lost his balance, almost falling off "Christ Ed's trying to kill me already? I thought I had another hour before you started that, but what do you want?"
"I wanted to make sure you were actually okay, I know you came back to Bill's house pretty late. I was only half awake and we were gonna go out looking for you at midnight but I was too tired to bring myself to wake everyone up along with myself." Eddie paused for a second to see if Richie would answer, but Richie knew he wasn't done. "And thanks for the blankets, you could've had mine." The pause was more final this time, and Richie was trying to put together a response as they come up to Richie's house and threw their bikes on the lawn.
"It's no problem, and I'm okay I was just having a moment you don't have to worry about me, it's not like I would stay outside all night or come home to miss out on seeing my lover boy!" Richie shuffled through his pockets and cursed under his breath when he realized he didn't have his keys either.
"Okay, but stop calling me that!" Eddie noticed what Richie was looking for in his pocket and he immediately dropped down off the short porch and reached under it to find the rock he pulled out and took a key that was taped onto it. He hopped back up to Richie's side and unlocked the door with the key, then put it back into hiding.
"Is that the key I gave you??" Richie questioned in awe.
"Yeah, I thought it would be best to hide it here instead of having the possibility of forgetting it at my house." Eddie said as they walked in the door, no one was home as usual.
Richie ran upstairs real quick and grabbed the bag of quarters he had stashed in the drawer of his desk and went back downstairs to see Eddie petting the cat, Luna.
He just watched as Eddie sat on the floor to pet Luna better and She rubbed up on Eddie as he pet her and Eddie giggled. Richie swore it was the most angelic sound he's ever heard. Richie looked at Eddie's face and he memorized it, every freckle that danced across his face, every flake of amber in his eyes, every fold in his soft looking lips. He took it all in and engraved it into his memory, never forgetting the angelic face to match the angelic giggle this boy could let out.
"Um y-you" he started off weakly but got all sorts of messed up when Eddie looked up at him with light hitting in just the right way that his face was intoxicating. "You reAdy to go??" He asked, clearing his throat "I got the shit and the others are probably already at the arcade" he held up the bag of quarters and shook it around.
"Yup" Eddie said nonchalantly, then he looked back down to the cat in his lap "I'm sorry kitty" he proceeded to pick up the cat out of his lap and put her on the ground.
