"YES! IT'S SNOWING!"
Lydia gasped in happiness at the sight of the white blanket. It had been snowing on and off since the start of the month. Everyone was buzzing with joy at the revelation that it had continuously snowed throughout the night. Loki herself couldn't stop from marvelling at the sight. It was the most they had gotten so far, and it was thick enough for the bottom of her boots to sink a little.
"If it keeps going like this, I'll have enough to throw at the Ravenclaws," Nicolas grinned in delight at the idea. Loki shot him a look of disappointment. "Oh, come on, you know you want to have a snowball fight."
"Not with the Ravenclaws," she retorted. The girl shuddered at the thought. "Last time you fought with them, it ended up with both sides having several injuries. And you were jinxed."
"Oh, shut up," Nicolas narrowed his eyes at the girl, giving her a rude hand gesture.
The girl retorted by merely sticking out her tongue. "I'd rather not stoop to your level."
Nicolas blew a raspberry at her before turning away, focusing back on his girlfriend. The blonde pranced around, animatedly talking with several people. He laughed at her actions before jogging away to catch her.
Loki turned her attention away from the couple, feeling a frown form on her face. She toyed with the tassel ends of her scarf, then swiftly picked up the ends, crossing them and throwing them over her shoulders. With a small adjustment, she continued out of the castle. But, before she could get very far, a heavy hand fell onto her shoulder. She jumped in surprise, stepping back as she whipped around to see who it was.
"Remus!" The girl squeaked. The taller boy smiled, tugging his bottom lip between his teeth.
"Sorry for startling you," he chuckled. He cocked his eyebrow as he scanned Loki's outfit. "No bag today?"
"Uh, no," she replied, her hand patting her thigh where the bag usually rested, as the two walked.
"That's okay," Remus shrugged. "I just wondered if you might have gotten bored."
"Why would I get bored?" Loki panic-asked. "You--you're not a dull guy. If anything, you would be bored with me. Or annoyed."
"You think too lowly of yourself, "Remus spoke. Loki turned her head towards him, taken aback. "You're surprised by that? Has no one ever complimented you?"
Loki bent her head low and shook her head. Remus stared in horror at the girl beside him. He couldn't believe it, not in a million years.
"I mean, Nic does, but I don't know if you're counting him or not," Loki shrugged. "It's fine though," they reached the carriages, and Loki climbed up first, "I'm used to it. I don't know how to react, so it just gets super uncomfortable."
Remus frowned as he took the spot beside her in the carriage. He leant back, and his eyebrows furrowed deeply.
"I--"
"Hey, hey, Moony. You don't mind if we join you, do you?" The coach dipped a little as Sirius's head popped in between the two. Loki jumped away, and Remus merely glared at his friend. "The other boys pestered Marlene and Lily enough that they're hitching a ride with them, so I'm here with Lucy."
Loki paused. Sirius jumped off the side, climbing onto the carriage. Loki watched as the male aided a girl up.
The dark-haired female couldn't help but marvel at the stranger. Her honey-blonde hair reached just below her shoulders, perfectly complimenting her flawless tan skin. Even climbing onto the carriage, she seemed elegant; too good to be true. When she thanked Sirius, her voice sounded like soft bell chimes.
Loki couldn't help but turn away, finding herself staring back at her lap. She began to tug on a loose thread on her jumper.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm Lucy Wright," the girl introduced herself.
Remus, who had become more focused on the girl beside him, quickly looked up, shooting Lucy a smile. "Remus Lupin," he greeted. He held out a hand to Lucy, who happily took it. "Nice to meet you, too."
"I'm Loki Hawthorne," Loki smiled, offering a wave to Lucy. Lucy smiled back Loki couldn't help but notice Lucy's fidgeting, it almost seemed like she was feeling something uncomfortable. "It's nice to mee you."
"I know," she laughed a little. Loki frowned. Lucy's eyes widened, and her nose twitched. "Oh, that sounded creepy! I, uh, I know because I'm also a Hufflepuff. Fifth Year, so I'm not surprised you don't recognise me."
"Oh," Loki let out a nervous laugh. "Sorry."
"So," Sirius leant back in his place opposite Loki, "what are you two doing today?"
"Oh, um," Remus blinked, glancing at the girl beside him, "there's not really a set plan." He frowned, averting his gaze away from the other carriages occupants
"We'll have fun, though, I'm sure, " Loki smiled, resting her hand on his arm.
Sirius raised his brow at the pair. His eyes flicked to their hands, noticing Remus's shiver at the contact. He turned his gaze to Lucy. Her focus was on a gaggle of girls in the next carriage, and her head twitched slightly. Her friends, he thought.
"And what about you, Sirius?" The male turned to Loki. She smiled at him, her hand still residing on his friend's arm.
"Nothing really, except Lucy asked me to take her to her grandmother's place. She doesn't know Hogsmeade all that well, and she's terrible with directions." He hid a smirk at the look of surprise that appeared on Loki's face. "I met Lucy because of my brother."
"Your brother?" Loki frowned. She hadn't known Sirius had a brother.
"He was bullying Lucy about something. He and I don't see eye to eye. He's a Slytherin, the poster child for my family." The tone of venom was bubbling in Sirius's voice, so evident that all the three other people in the carriage stopped and turned. "Glad he refuses to even look at me." Sirius blinked, snapping out of whatever trance he'd been put it.
"I'm sure he only does it because of the immense pressure he faces from your parents," Loki blurted. Sirius paused, raising a brow at her words. "Not that I know anything about your family. I'm sorry. It's just a reaction to try to see the best in people." Loki averted her gaze, and Lucy let out a bark of laughter before covering her mouth.
Remus smiled at the girl. His hand found hers, and he rested his on top.
Loki stilled at the contact for a moment but quickly tried to ignore it. She continued to stare at Sirius, waiting for some response from the boy. After a moment, his mouth cracked into a grin.
"I was frightened you were going to scold me for a second, Princess. That or you would nose your way into my business," he hummed. "Once I show Lucy the way, I'm crashing your date--"
"No, you're not," Remus replied.
"Didn't deny it this time, Moony?" Sirius cackled in what appeared to be triumph.
Loki paused, frowning. She glanced at Remus. She recounted the previous Potions lesson they had.
"Anywho, I'll crash your date, and then steal your girl!" Sirius's smile was short as Remus kicked him in the leg. "Oi!"
Remus and Sirius began their teasing and arguing. Both Loki and Lucy watched in amusement. From their diagonal position in the carriage, the two girls locked eyes. They shared a smile, somehow finding the situation funnier because they were both in it.
"Godric Gryffindor, Sirius, don't push me out of this thing!"
