GLACIER BLUE ➪

"IT JUST SUCKS."

"I know," Loki sighed, her hand circling the boy's back. His head rested limply on her shoulder, and she could feel the tears staining her shirt. "But you still have next year. And you can also show up those Slytherins."

The pair were on Nicolas's bed, sitting cross-legged and facing each other. To comfort the boy, Loki had told one of the girls in her dorm that she was sick, and to relay it to any others if they asked.

"I just wanted to prove that I was good enough," Nicolas hiccuped. Loki resisted the urge to yell at Nicolas for thinking that way. "I wanted to make them proud."

"They are, Nic, and you don't have to win against Gryffindor for them to believe that." Loki could feel tears forming in her eyes as she comforted her best friend. "If anything, they would be even prouder because you gave it your all. You tried, and that's what matters."

The girl couldn't help but think that she was acting like one of the muggle mothers she had on her block. She shook away the thought, focusing back on her crying friend. Her hands snaked around the boy, burying her head into his shoulder. For a moment, the two were content. Tears might have been falling from their eyes, but it didn't matter.

"Can I tell you another story about my mum and dad?" Nicolas inquired after a moment. His sniffled as he waited for the girl answer.

"Of course," Loki nodded.

She loved hearing stories about Nic's parents. The couple seemed only to have fun together, and she was happy when Nicolas would smile while talking about them.

"When they were at Hogwarts, there was this girl in their year. She was a Prefect or whatever and she was really into divination," Nicolas laughed against Loki's shoulder. "One day she asked if my mum and dad wanted a reading. Of course, they said yes."

"Why do I have a feeling I know where this is going," Loki hummed against the boy's jumper. He let out a croaky chuckle.

"Hmm. Anyway, my parents said yes, and this girl makes them do the normal stuff. Hands, tea, the lot." Nicolas adjusted himself, lifting his head, so his chin rested on her shoulder, before going on. "Every time, this chick would get crazier and crazier. I'm pretty sure one time she said something vague about my mum and a hippogriff."

Loki couldn't help but laugh at that. She buried her head further into Nicolas's shoulder, embarrassed about it. The boy grinned at his friend's reaction.

"What in the name of Rowena Ravenclaw?" She snorted. "Did any of her predictions come true?"

"Just one," Nicolas sighed. He pulled himself back, wiping the tears that had finally stopped streaming down his face, and rested his head on his pillow. "You know how they sometimes hold dances at school for different occasions for the sixth and seventh years?"

"Yeah."

"Well this girl -- I remember my dad saying this to me -- this girl said that my dad would receive wondrous news that night." Nicolas let out a soft sigh. Loki gazed at the boy, patiently waiting for him to finish. "And he did. Mum really did give him the best news of his life." His voice cracked, and Loki almost hauled him up into another hug.

"What was it?" She inquired. Her voice was soft, like any louder and she would break the tearful boy.

"My mum told him right during the very last dance that she was pregnant." Loki's brows lifted in surprise. "She told me she'd never seen a man cry that hard before. He was ecstatic. Beyond ecstatic. He was on cloud nine."

"Wow," Loki breathed. Nicolas turned his face to the ceiling.

"I miss them, Loki." He let the words slip from his mouth effortlessly. Loki had never heard him say it out loud, though she could easily tell when he was thinking it. "I never tell anyone how much I miss them, but I really do."

Nicolas let out a soft groan. He ran his hand through his hair and flipped himself over. Loki pushed herself backwards until her back hit one of the bedposts, just as Nicolas extended his legs.

"You know," Nicolas's voice came out muffled, "your mum would be proud, too." Loki paused, her gaze moving to the boy. "Really proud."

"Thanks, Nic," Loki spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. She smiled gently, wiping away the tear in her right eye that threatened to spill.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

i tried to keep this chapter short, which i did a good job of, i think. i wanted it to be like that to show that the best moments happen in an instant. i also think that you might enjoy the next two chapters bc it's pretty much just remus/loki/sirius cute stuff with a hint of drama (?)

how are you going, though? I'm feeling great, honestly, and i hope you're doing just as well.

i love reading and replying to your comments, so leave some if you wish. bye! :)
