Of course, it's just my luck to have had 3 faulty laptops delivered and returned to me within 4 days. The last one even had a cracked screen?! What part of "I need a neatly used macbook" says cracked screen.
Anyway it's my first day of work today. I had to wake up at 4:30a.m, yes you read that right. To prepare for work so i can catch a ride with my dad who leaves for work at 5:30a.m to beat traffic and resume by 7a.m.
Needless to say i'm tired, hungry and frustrated because my ancient laptop which i had to carry for lack of a new one keeps going off and it's not even 9 yet.
The office is a big open space above a laundromat with glass from top to bottom. So the afternoon light is blinding and i have to wear my glasses here. The open space is not so bad since i can people watch when i'm trying to distract myself from work. I guess i should also be grateful that i know some faces here, i didn't realize so many people from my school work here. I completely avoided any interaction in school but i'm sure talking with them will be better than talking to complete strangers.
It's midday now, the last 3 hours have been a blur. I got a first day gift from one of my old classmates, a rubiks cube, shockingly nice. I've had another of said classmates, ask me to move my things as i'm seating in their space- even though seats are not allocated here. So now i'm the new girl sitting away from everybody in the empty studio space above the main office. Everybody can't be nice i guess.
Ryan is the Design team lead which makes him my boss and that's kind of bitter-sweet. Let me think of how best to explain who Ryan is, he's like a child on a bring your child to work day. Messing around and playing with things and disturbing the flow of work. You'd get frustrated with him, but you'll also remember he's a child and you can't do much about it. The sweet part is he understands how tasking our work can get, so he's willing to take time to explain and break down clients requests.
Work is thankfully over for the day, some people left already. Most people are still hanging around, trying to avoid rush hour traffic. I have a backlog of work to do, but i also have to catch up with my dad so i can get a ride home. I pick up my phone to book a ride as i pack up my bag to leave.
"Your ride is 3 minutes away" - Uber. Time to head downstairs and face my long journey home, i mutter a quick goodbye. "Bye guys, see you tomorrow". There should be a greater word than traffic, because traffic doesn't begin to cover what i had to seat through tonight. Six hours getting home, it's past 11 now ii can't do anything else than fall straight into bed. Completely knackered.
